Startup Partner: Hover

Hover is a globally distributed team on a mission to build an inclusive internet. The team started because of a technical innovation that allowed them to run USSD sessions in the background of an Android app. Hover's Android SDK can run virtually any USSD interaction on any mobile operator anywhere in the world. This includes payments, airtime top-up, bill pay and more.

Hover is now using its core technology to build Stax. Stax is a consumer-focused Fintech app that leverages USSD automation technology to power offline and online payments for individuals and small businesses. Stax is the simplest way to manage & spend from all your bank & mobile money accounts on a single app, and to make transactions offline.

Stax is currently compatible with over 80 bank and mobile money services across 11 countries, expanding to more than 500 services in 50 countries within the next 1-2 years.

Project Description

Hover is seeking a product reliability engineer to grow and maintain healthy service integrations for Stax.

In this role, you will work closely with product, engineering, growth, and users to make transacting with Stax as reliable as possible.

You will help formulate reliability targets and make sure the team meets them by working with a distributed network of testers across several different countries.

You will also play a critical role in identifying and prioritizing new services and markets, working with Stax Money Mappers to gather and configure USSD menu data.

Key Project Deliverables

  • Gain a deep understanding of user needs, user expectations, and product value propositions to write effective test cases and analyze results.
  • Conduct end-to-end product testing with a distributed network of testers.
  • Document, analyze, and prioritize test results.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to prioritize issues found during testing, package releases, and ship world-class product.
  • Configure new banking and mobile money services in Stax.
  • Identify, prioritize, and fix service configuration issues.
  • Engage and collaborate with Stax Money Mappers to ensure ongoing service coverage and reliability.
  • Document and share weekly reliability and Money Mapper bounty reports.
  • Communicate and collaborate with product, engineering, and growth teams to help prioritize and execute geographic expansion strategies.

Skills & Requirements

  • You work best with a lot of freedom and autonomy. Hover is a remote team, and they don't micro-manage. You will be expected to manage and prioritize your own day-to-day work in pursuit of user success and team success.
  • You have some knowledge of regular expressions, Python, and/or SQL with a willingness and drive to learn more.
  • You are detail-oriented, thorough, organized, and adaptable.
  • You are a skilled communicator when navigating competing priorities and approach problems with creativity, empathy, patience, and curiosity.
