A unique opportunity to build world-class consumer electronic products
reMarkable is a Norwegian tech company that develops products and services to help people think better in a distracted world. In a short amount of time, we’ve grown from a small startup to having over 200 permanent employees and two fantastic offices in central Oslo. Following the successful launch of our second-generation paper tablet, which was named as one of TIME's "100 Best Innovations of 2020", we’re facing new challenges and opportunities in a global arena. Therefore, we are now looking for a skilled Material Scientist who will play an important role in developing products helping people to think better. Are you ready to join the growth of a completely unique technology company?
About the role
As a Material Scientist, you will play a key role in the Research & Development of materials, technologies, and production processes which will help us take the design, user experience, and quality of our product to new heights. You will have the opportunity to lead exciting and cutting-edge R&D projects with external R&D partners and suppliers to achieve our goals. You and the team will play a central role in developing our future products together with our designers and product developers, and solve specific mechanical and cosmetic challenges related to materials and processing technologies. Tasks related to this will include defining processes for, and leading, research on materials, technologies, and production methods and solving complex challenges. This will often include testing samples and/or prototypes to ensure the theory matches reality in practice.
As a Material Scientist, you will be a part of the Mechanical Design Team, one of the 6 teams in the Design Department. You will get to collaborate with cross-functional teams of dedicated and competent colleagues on a daily basis.
Is this the right opportunity for you?

You are structured and thorough, and master working on several issues in parallel by prioritizing your workday as needed. You have good skills in Research & Development and are concerned with aesthetics and quality. You have relevant experience with research on material properties to achieve specific product needs, preferably at the micrometer level. Experience with tribology, optical properties, surface modifications, polymers, glass, composites, and metal materials is desirable. You have experience with methods for testing and verifying material properties. Interest in, and experience with, consumer electronics is an advantage.
As a person, you are structured, inventive, independent, and responsible. You are engaging and have good communication skills. You thrive in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment. You master working in teams with a focus on common goals, and the ability to throw yourself around to deliver quickly and efficiently, also when goals change. A reMarkable Design Department
A good design affects us more than we know. With us, it is one of the most important and substantial drivers for perceived value and customer loyalty.
The Design Departments’ mission is to create functional and exclusive experiences not only appreciated by our customers but also something that creates (everyday)magic. Therefore, we work incessantly in cross-functional teams to build a brand that emphasizes and reinforces our vision for better thinking.
In mechanical design, we define how our physical products are made and how they are put together. We investigate and define what kind of materials and processes can be used to provide the best possible user experiences, cost, quality, and sustainable solutions. We take making products that can withstand daily use in the everyday life of our customers very seriously.
