Northvolt has an exciting opportunity for an experienced quality control engineer to join our bold project team to play a key role in evaluating the incoming details, intermediate and final products for Northvolt production and development of Li-ion cells. We are looking for our plant in Skellefteå.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in establishing the Quality Control laboratory of the first large scale European factory for Li-ion cells. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society. We are continuously building a team of experienced engineers and great leaders with industry background.

In your role you will be developing, defining and implementing the inspection methods for evaluating the incoming details, intermediate and final products for Production. Furthermore, you will be responsible for developing quality standards, procedures and documentation associated with the manufacturing inspection techniques. You will also be responsible for reviewing quality data, MSA studies and work with the R&D team to evaluate and compare product quality including participating into RCAs.

The Sr. Quality Control Engineer-OpEx Team should be an expert and/or having experience in interpretation of drawings, measuring methods, vision systems, potentially advanced NDT methods and instruments. You will play an important role to support Research & Development and Production teams in measuring, improving product quality, collaborating with Quality and Production teams.

In general, you have strong statistical background and a long experience in quality control with different measuring & inspection techniques and work independently with a good sense of responsibility and commitment and are used to structure your work in an efficient way. Specifically, you have a deep understanding of working and cooperating cross-functionally in a multicultural environment with Supply Chain/Procurement, R&D, Quality and Production. You will be based at the facility in Skellefteå.

You should be analytical and logical with an ability to identify opportunities and improvements to drive increased quality through data driven approaches. Strong technical abilities are needed in order to succeed in this role.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: **

  • Start-up of first measuring methods and instruments

  • Searching, validating and implementing new inspection methods and technologies together with potential suppliers

  • Develop and document methods and procedures for dimension measurements
    of incoming details and product intermediates together with R&D

  • Run testing on a range of instruments and report data/results
  • Experience in drawing, CMM, Computed Tomography, X-ray and imaging systems.
  • Strong Statistical Background

  • Experience in MSA and Validation Studies

  • Execute the Quality Control and testing plan of incoming details, product intermediates and finalized products.

  • Maintain the instruments to a high standard
  • Work across many parts of the organization, collaborating with R&D technical team, Process engineering, Supply Chain, IT & automation.

The person we are looking for is a team player, curious and eager to learn. A background within battery, materials testing, materials science and materials engineering is very good to have. Especially the ability to manage method development and experience with validation.

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Materials Engineering

  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant work experience in Production or R&D Environment

  • Experience from automotive business or as a supplier to automotive business is an advantage together with experience of SC CC for components and what it means for quality controls and PPAP.

  • Experience in vision systems, NDT methods (Preferably at X-ray, Computed Tomography), CMM and Precision Measurement Devices
  • Specific knowledge of quality management systems, e.g. ISO 9001, IATF16949, TQM
  • Experience in developing analytical methods, standards, procedures and documentation in an efficient way.

  • Project management skills and a successful track record of leading quality projects in a laboratory environment

  • Knowledgeable in Lean and Six Sigma

  • Knowledgeable in MSA Studies
  • Strong Statistical Analysis Background
  • Familiar with SPC, FMEA, Quality troubleshooting tools and problem-solving methodologies (e.g. 8D).

  • Curious, technically educated and preferably with a strong manufacturing quality background
