The Quality Control team at Northvolt Labs in Västerås, Sweden, is looking for an experienced and passionate CT Imaging Specialist & Manager to lead and drive the development and continuous improvement of X-ray and CT scanning inspections as a quality control and failure analysis tool for battery cells, both sub- and final products.

You will be responsible for driving the development, validation and implementation of imaging and scanning techniques to inspect and detect failures in battery cells, including building up a strong team and centre of competence in X-ray and CT scanning to support our multiple production lines.

Specifically, you have worked several years in the field of X-ray and CT scanning or other non-destructive testing methods. You have lead and driven method development and validation projects in a laboratory or industrial setting before, and have a deep technical understanding of X-ray inspection systems. This includes hands-on experience in maintaining & troubleshooting advance equipment, as well as visualising, analysing and interpreting data.

We are looking for a hands-on, technically-driven candidate with an analytical and logical mind that can identify opportunities and improvements as well as drive increased quality through data driven approaches. Next to your strong technical abilities, you enjoy working in a team and share your knowledge and experience with others.

You will be reporting to the Quality Control Manager.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Drive the development, validation and implementation of X-ray and CT scanning inspections for components, sub-products and finished battery cells.
  • Manage and up build a team of experienced CT scanning operators and inspectors to ensure 24/7 CT operation and continuous production support.

  • Actively contribute to 8D production investigations incl. root-cause analyses of battery defect detections and failures.

  • Responsible for the maintenance & troubleshooting of several CT scanning systems.
  • Drive operational excellence by being a key player in day-to-day problem solving and process improvement exercises.
  • Continuously develop innovative solutions to increase resolution, image quality & more efficient, automated ways for defect detections.
  • Understand and internalize QA/QC principles in every day functions.

  • Work across many parts of the organisation, collaborating with Production, R&D, Process engineering and Quality.

  • Work with external suppliers, institutes and academic organizations as well as customers.

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • PhD or MSc in Materials Science, Physics, Natural Sciences, Engineering or any other related field.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in non-destructive testing, such as X-ray and CT scanning in a relevant industry.
  • Previous experience in leading method development and validation projects in a laboratory environment.

  • Experience in programming and machine learning is a plus.

  • Experience in managing a team is a plus.
  • Must have worked in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Curious, technically educated and preferably with a strong business background.
