Our mission is to enable Meltwater’s Product and Engineering teams to accelerate delivery of their applications and services without thinking too much about infrastructure, including helping with their migration to AWS. We need another AWS passionate, creative, motivated, and knowledgeable person with amazing communication skills to help drive conversations with Meltwater Product and Engineering teams while really listening to their needs. You’ll get to try out new shit AND deliver value for the organization!
Some of the technologies our teams use:
Everything AWS, from EC2 to Lambda to S3, Cloudwatch, Route53 and more
Scripting language(s) of your choice (we have things written in python, golang, ruby, bash, and more). “And more” is my favorite scripting language.
Why we need you:
We are kicking ass: Many teams in the organization want to collaborate with us on AWS architecture and ideas for their applications and services - but we are currently a small team and can’t meet all the needs. Help us scale up!
Continuous Delivery: Our latest tool delivered to Meltwater (Drone.io) had several teams start using it within days (migrating away from Travis and Circle), and now there’s a need for more functionality, features, and endpoints. Help us provide needed features to our clients: the Meltwater engineers!
Observability: We love metrics at Meltwater! Help us build insights into all our systems that allow other engineers to take actions and improve their systems.
One of us isn’t as smart as all of us: Trying to grasp the nuance of every new AWS service and release is exciting and never ending. Help us by learning about the bleeding edge offerings in AWS and share with the rest of the team.
Problem Solving: More points of view from different angles helps our team think differently about each problem, and we love that. Bring your perspective in and help us look at problems in a different light.
Build more tooling: Meltwater Engineering teams are clamoring for more tools to accelerate them even more. Help us develop and delivery more cool stuff - maybe including things we haven’t even thought of yet.
Decision making: Vi or emacs? Tabs or spaces? More fundamental questions and decisions than you can shake a stick at!
Skills you should have:
Teamwork. You know it makes the dream work. (Sorry, we hate that too, but ya know, its catchy and true)
AWS knowledge. You should know your way around AWS, and be able to understand and communicate what service offerings are right for specific scenarios, and which aren’t.
Listening. Yes, listening is a skill, and one you MUST have when working on this team. You won’t always be the smartest person in the room (and that is a good thing). However, you must know HOW to listen to your team and your customers in order to ensure the solutions provided are best for everyone.
Experience deploying and supporting in AWS via infrastructure-as-code.
Container delivery. (Insert container ship joke here). You do need to have experience with systems which get containers to where they need to be in a repeatable fashion.
Self motivated working style with attention to detail. We aren’t gonna stand over you like a pointy-haired boss (our boss has very little hair, anyway), but the team has expectations of you, as you would of them. All for one and one for all.
Desire to automate away painful or common tasks. Less time spent on boring or repetitive tasks gives us more time to do the things we love.
Desire to visualize and understand infrastructure and application performance. Having the right metrics easily available allows us to make informed decisions and quickly troubleshoot issues when they arise.
Outstanding sense of humor. If you’ve ever been told you don’t have a sense of humor, please don’t apply. You won’t like us when we get “funny” and sarcastic.
