Job description
As a Lead Solution Consultant (LSC), you will join the highly skilled Product team, working on Digital Platform implementation projects. As part of a project team, working in conjunction with our customer, you will develop new Product features, influence architectural decisions, innovate, and propose improvements while also mentoring more junior Java developers.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with product management, product analysts and development teams to identify and design new platform capabilities, ensuring that the implemented designs provide a robust, scalable, performant and commercially compelling platform.

  • Investigate, select, and incorporate industry leading technologies and patterns into the platform, in particular AWS technologies and services.

  • Represent and promote the platform design both within team and externally, with clients, prospects, and business partners.

  • Work with developers to assess the feasibility of proposed solutions and providing continuous support during implementation.

  • Design and build Insurance products. Your role will be solution design, translating business requirements and terms into product design and technical concepts. You will engage in active development to deliver those solutions, as well.

  • Be a member of one of our Scrum teams. You will be working closely with Product Owner, Analyst and Architect for that, and your role will be crucial for the team to fully own, design, plan and deliver end-to-end feature implementation.

  • Involvement in pre-planning to line up features that are in a state of readiness to be broken into User Stories that provide business value and map into product design

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle; technical analysis and design, development and unit test phases.

  • Produce solution design with relevant documents to support a strong implementation. This may include wireframes, data models and diagrams (UML)
  • Interacting with internal and external customers of the organisation, to clarify requirements, design and develop solutions.
  • Mentoring of less experienced staff where appropriate e.g. development best practices, peer review of designs, code and tests.
  • Ability to identify, deliver and drive improvements and innovations within the development area.
  • Compile and review estimates around all technical aspects of a solution
  • Ensure all aspects of good design and construction are delivered, including:

    • Performance, scalability and security
    • Modularity, interoperability and upgradability
    • Work with peers within the client organization to ensure a successful delivery
    • Provide detailed planning and tracking information to Scrum Masters, Development leads and Project management
  • Working on both back-end Java programming and front-end web based user interfaces with a strong focus on User Experience.

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision, relied upon for critical tasks and accept leadership roles when called upon to do so

Skills & Requirements


  • 8-10 years’ experience of, and a proven aptitude for software analysis and design.
  • Ability to design platform APIs and capabilities that work together to deliver a durable, supportable and cohesive platform
  • Experience of designing REST APIs and in particular APIs that are for external consumption, for example, as public cloud APIs and on which UIs (JavaScript web apps) are developed.
  • A detailed understanding of the technical aspects of security (eg SAML, AWS Cognito) and application security concerns (persona / roles) and how these impact API design.
  • Expert level knowledge of industry leading technologies and techniques relevant to enterprise web application development, including:

    • Java and Java EE
    • HTML5 and JavaScript
    • Integrations / Web Services
    • RDBMS
    • Performance & Scalability
    • Experience of cloud technologies and in particular experience working with AWS technologies is a distinct advantage but is not essential
  • Be capable of working in a reviewer role with others, ensuring that the integrity of the platform is preserved and promoted, and that proposals are reviewed meticulously for technical and functional soundness.

  • Excellent communication skills – to communicate and promote the design of the software to key stakeholders and engage in open discussions on prospective new features.
  • Strong knowledge of software design patterns including latest cloud, Java and web application development innovations.
  • Experience with insurance software would be preferable but is not essential.
  • Experience of working in an Agile development environment ( SAFe )
  • Ability to take on a senior design and development role in on going product development of new features and maintenance for existing customers
