  • Application Deadline: Nov. 26, 2021
  • Oslo

Schibsted Data Foundations are solving exciting problems at scale, spanning from gathering up to 950 million events per day while keeping users privacy and data security in mind, to building high quality predictive machine learning models. Our services are powering critical use-cases in Schibsted such as producing insights about our customers, segments for the online advertising on our sites, and personalization of our news.

We are looking for an engineering manager for the Data Management and Distribution team (M&D) in Data Foundations, powering Pulse Tracking - Schibsted's own Web Tracking platform and a part of the Data Foundations product portfolio. The team is responsible for the software and infrastructure and tooling used to ingest, transform and distribute a terabyte of data per day, with maximum five seconds latency in some pipelines. This enables web analytics, data collection and tag management for Schibsted brands all across the Nordics. It is used to drive both insights, online advertisement and news-room decision support.

As engineering manager for the M&D team you will be part of the Data Foundations leadership team, and you will be responsible for a diverse, engaged and competent team of engineers involved with a set of high throughput, high velocity services built on Kafka, Spark and AWS. Even though we deliver an internal product, we need to meet the diversity of Schibsted with a product and developer experience mindset.

In this role you will:

  • Manage a central team of software- and data engineers, delivering major impact across all of Schibsted
  • Be responsible for development of our data collection services
  • Help build low latency processing services leveraging Kafka, and a suite of downstream connectors writing data to various data destinations, such as Amplitude, Google Analytics, Kafka, AWS Kinesis, AWS S3
  • Advocate and advance modern software development practices and help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices
  • Help build robust, scalable systems and processes to ensure reliable delivery and operations of our systems
  • Ensure incremental value delivery and high-quality standards
  • Work in a distributed environment leading a team based in Oslo, Norway.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product counterparts in the Data Foundations team.
  • Maintain high levels of teamwork, transparency, and efficiency in collaboration with other development teams both in Data Foundations and in other parts of Schibsted
  • Develop people through coaching and mentoring
  • Attract, onboard, and retain diverse top talent.
  • Work with stakeholders across the company to balance and accommodate competing priorities
