HOW IT WORKS
Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.
Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, be connected to expert mentors, and get to understand market nuances.
Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startups while being paid a stipend.
Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup post the fellowship
Startup Partner: Kibanda TopUp
Across Africa, over 600 million people eat from largely informal, small, and medium restaurants every single day. These restaurants have an extremely hard time accessing inventory and financial services, Kibanda Topup helps them with both. We are a venture-backed technology company operating in Kenya and Nigeria.
Kibanda TopUp is looking for an exceptional strategic thinker and finance expert that can come in to help unlock the potential within Africa’s food supply chain.
As a Fellow, you will work closely with the executive team on several fundraising efforts. The role requires an individual who has experience fundraising, can develop models, is extremely detail-oriented, has a strong sense of urgency, persistence, and the ability to drive change. This is an amazing opportunity for fellows to experience the buzzing entrepreneurial ecosystem that Kenya and Nigeria have to offer.
You will build out tools to analyze the operating and financial strategy of the company and conduct a quantitative analysis of current operations while evaluating the return on investment of new opportunities. You will help with creating forecasting models, assessing risk in investments, and ensuring the company’s accounting activities comply with relevant regulations.
Build a comprehensive operating financial model of Kibanda TopUp’s business
Provide financial reports and interpret financial information to executives
Work alongside the CEO in supporting investor relations
Establish both short-term results and long-term strategies, including revenue forecasting
Reports to: CEO
2 – 4 years of relevant experience
Primary experience should include business analysis, project operations, project management or/and project implementation
Ability to prioritize and multitask
Sound business judgment and understanding of operational processes
Graduate students in the field of finance, business or economics (MBA preferred)
Working knowledge of Africa is a plus.
