Plan International Sweden is now seeking a Gender & Conflict Advisor to coordinate the Gender and Conflict Sensitivity thematic initiatives as well as provide guidance and strategic direction for Gender Transformation and Conflict Sensitivity.

The advisor will be based out of the Plan International Sweden's Policy and Thematic Unit in Stockholm that includes a team of Thematic Advisors within both humanitarian and development fields. The other Thematic Advisors are focusing for example on Child Protection, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Civil Society Strengthening, and Climate Change & Resilience.

This is a new role at Plan International Sweden and therefore the role will be part of developing an approach and scope for the future.

Main task for this role:

Lead the Gender and Inclusion and Conflict Sensitivity thematic initiatives

  • Act as a project lead, including budget and reporting responsibilities, for the two thematic initiatives Gender and Inclusion and Conflict Sensitivity.
  • Coordinate efforts related to Gender and Conflict across the Plan International Sweden team

  • Collaborate with key staff in all thematic areas and Program Management staff to support Country Offices in quality thematic initiative design, implementation and reporting.

  • Lead and coordinate efforts with external partners and consultants related to Gender and Conflict.

Provide guidance and strategic direction for Gender and Conflict work at Plan International Sweden

  • Provide timely and qualitative advisory in all stages of the project cycle within the thematic area of Gender and Conflict
  • Contribute to a productive cooperation with the Country Offices and donors and to identify new funding opportunities within the thematic areas and competitive project design.

  • Contribute to assure the quality of the Plan International Sweden supported programs and projects within the fields of gender and conflict through regular monitoring, evaluation of results and gathering lessons learnt.

  • Represent Plan International in external network forums for policy and advocacy work.

Strengthen Plan International's work on gender and conflict

  • Actively participate in the Plan International global policy and thematic guidance development work in the areas of gender and inclusion as well as conflict sensitivity as necessary.

  • Host trainings, webinars, learning events and workshops for Plan International Sweden staff on how to integrate and strengthen gender, inclusion and conflict sensitivity in our programs.

  • Provide timely and qualitative advice to Program Managers at Plan International Sweden, Country Offices, Regional Hubs in on how to strengthen the area of gender and inclusion as well as conflict sensitivity.

Kvalifikationer

To succeed in this role, you need to have:

  • Higher degree in political science, peace and conflict, law, social science, gender, humanities or other relevant field of study.

  • Several years of experience of working internationally with development cooperation and humanitarian aid.

  • Demonstrated experience of integrating and supporting a conflict sensitive approach, but also a gender transformative approach.

  • Well oriented with relevant international frameworks and standards such as Do No Harm, the Child Rights Convention, and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

  • Demonstrated experience in project cycle management and proposal writing and is comfortable working with the logical framework approach (LFA).
  • Proven skills in conducting trainings and facilitate workshops.

  • Excellent computer skills in programs such as: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Excellent written and oral English skills.

  • Additional language skills in Swedish, French, Spanish or Arabic is considered a major benefit.

  • Experience of working with the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus, Resolution 1325 and/or 2250 in both policy and operational work is a merit.

As a person you are a strong communicator and have interpersonal skills, positive and professional attitude. You have the ability to facilitate and work well in a culturally diverse team setting and multiple partners. We believe you have the ability to take on a leading role in coordinating and motivate staff across several office. Also, you are flexible, creative and good at finding solutions.

The position is a full-time permanent employment, which is equivalent to 37,5 h/week. The position is based in Stockholm and a valid work permit for Sweden is a requirement before you apply for the position. The role includes travel to countries where Plan International Sweden has program cooperation.
