In Schibsted Data Foundations, we work with data. A lot of data. From our sites and products in the Nordics, we collect nearly 1 billion events per day. As the saying goes, "with vast amounts of data comes great responsibility." One of our core responsibilities is to ensure that our users' data is stored and processed according to the latest best practices within privacy and security. The reason for collecting all this data is to provide value to our end-users and Schibsted at large by building high-quality predictive machine learning pipelines. We produce value by personalizing our news and media products. We ensure that ads are relevant by segmenting on age, gender, interests, and more. We provide insights on our customer bases to build the right products at the right time. How do we do all of this? Well, this is where you come into the picture.
We are looking for an engineering manager to lead an engineering team within Data Foundations. The team is part of a value chain starting with ingesting all our data from Schibsted brands such as Finn, Blocket, VG, and Aftonbladet and turning them into various data products such as business insights, machine learning models and advertisement segments. If you are motivated both by building teams and team members’ competencies, if you are someone excited by technology and advances in big data processing, scaling infrastructure and machine learning, if you are seeking impact - this is for you.
You will be part of the Data Foundations leadership team, and you will be responsible for a diverse, engaged and competent team composed of engineers and data scientists. You will take part in building big data pipelines using technologies such as Spark,Kafka and Tensorflow. Even though we deliver internal products, we need to meet the diversity within Schibsted with a product mindset. Quality of our services, APIs and ease of use, and integration have high focus, as well as privacy in our down-stream deliveries.
In this role you will:
You have led a team before, and when we talk to you about recruitment, team dynamics, team development and performance enablement you can line up relevant examples from your journey as a leader.
You appreciate a “you build it, you run it mentality.”
You keep our customers - software professionals, data engineers, data analysts, business stakeholders, both inside and outside Schibsted - in mind and have the ability to relate to them and understand their needs and feedback.
You thrive on developing people and building a diverse and inclusive team.
You’re an effective communicator and bring strong feedback skills to your team.
You’re proficient in English in verbal and written form.
Have a track record of delivering successful products as an engineer and a team lead.
Have experience guiding the continuous improvement of process and technology.
Have a strong sense of ownership and take responsibility for the success of the team.
You have solid technical experience in data science or data engineering, with familiarity with technologies such as Spark, Kafka or Tensorflow.
Have an ability to take smart risks and champion new ideas, in an agile environment.
Have the ability to thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility.
We run our infrastructure on AWS - familiarity with AWS, GCP or Azure will be considered a plus.
You’re interested in driving any kind of improvements (processes, technologies, across team’s and processes for the whole department, not only your team and responsibilities.
