Senior Data Engineer

  • Stockholm

Data and insight is fundamental to achieve Schibsted’s News Media strategy. In the central media insights team, our vision is to enable high quality and compliant data access in order to facilitate data driven product development and data informed decisions at all levels.

As the News Media division is converging on common infrastructure, the data sources and data warehouse solutions for separate publishers will be replaced by a common data layer and analytical tools i.e. the analytical platform. The new platform supports all teams from both central functions and local brands, such as Aftonbladet, SvD, VG, Aftenposten and more.

As a Data Engineer, you will be a part of the team that designs and implements what is needed to cover the common needs for Schibsted News Media. The Team is located in the Shared Products & Platforms organisation (SPP) and led by the Media Head of Insights. It is currently staffed with two Data Engineers, three Data Analysts, and an Engineering Manager.

What you will do:

  • Work together with highly skilled analysts, data scientists and engineers across the entire media division
  • Be an important part in forming the platform’s technical direction and roadmap. Together with analysts and other data engineers you will evaluate existing solutions and make technology choices for how to deliver and store data efficiently and reliably.
  • Load, transform, integrate and aggregate data in accordance to commonly defined business needs
  • Manage real-time data pipelines and help build analytical apps on top of them by using the best technologies for the job
  • Design data models and architecture for analytical performance, flexibility and scalability
  • Make data available in different formats (realtime, batch) to best deliver on insights requirements
  • Design and set up reports in suitable tools for reporting and data exploration (Tableau, Amplitude etc.)

Who we think you are:

  • At least 5 years of experience working as a software engineer, with a minimum of two years of data engineering.
  • Passion for data and continuously drive to improve analytical tools to achieve great outcomes for our users
  • Committed to technology. You enjoy figuring out solutions to complex problems, and adapting the solution to the user’s ability. You understand the software development and agile best practices, including the application of these in a micro service setting.
  • Responsible and self-driven.
  • Significant experience with modern data engineering practices, tools and technologies, such as Workflow orchestration, Streaming data, Cloud data infrastructure, database design, modelling and optimization.
  • Fluent in at least one programming language (Scala, Python, Java, Kotlin), one dialect of SQL, and interested in learning more.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English
