We are now looking for a Trade Commissioner to head up the office and to be part of growing our footprint and presence in Vietnam. Business Sweden has been active in Vietnam since 2006. Together with the Bangkok office, we also cover the Mekong region. From our office at the Swedish embassy in Hanoi, we support Swedish businesses with strategic advice and help them to set up a local network. We have also just established a subsidiary in Ho Chi Minh City to better cover the significant growth in the region.
Today Southeast Asia has more than 670 million inhabitants and a combined GDP of 9,34 trillion USD driven by massive investments in physical and digital infrastructure, increased value-add and strengthened pace of innovation in the manufacturing sector together with a rapidly growing middle class driving domestic consumption overtaking exports as primary driver of growth.
Our focus industries in Vietnam is particular
Since the mid-1980s, the Vietnamese economy has been performing very well. Thanks to stable prices and increasing wages, private consumption has had a real boost. This has created a growing middle-class with a higher demand for imported goods, pushing the economy forward.
Sweden has had a long relationship with Vietnam and in 1969, it was the first Western country that established diplomatic relations with the country. Swedish export consists mostly of engineering products, particularly machinery and equipment, and medical and pharmaceutical products. However, export is still relatively modest and there is a lot of growth potential, especially since a free-trade agreement with the EU was signed in 2019. Currently there are about 60 Swedish related companies present in Vietnam
What do we expect from you?
As a Country Manager/Trade Commissioner, you will have responsibility for sales and delivery and for developing the Business Sweden staff. You will be based in Hanoi and report to Emil Akander, Market Area Director for Southeast Asia based in Singapore.
Your responsibilities will include:
You will have very close relations to the Swedish representations in the market. This means that you will be an official representative for Sweden, acting in close collaboration with the Swedish Foreign Service and other organisations.

As a person we believe you have a business oriented mind-set with a positive "can do attitude” and strong self-motivation. You are perceived as a strong leader and have an outstanding ability to build personal relations, empathy and trust. You have a vision and a strong drive to develop Business Sweden’s operations in Vietnam and Southeast Asia even further. You furthermore have excellent organisation, communication and problem solving skills as well as an ability to handle multiple priorities. To enjoy working and living in Vietnam you must be open minded and solution oriented since the environment can be unpredictable and requires drive and on-the-spot thinking in order to achieve results.
