HOW IT WORKS
Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.
Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, receive training from expert mentors, and get to understand market nuances.
Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startups while being paid a stipend. Final projects will be presented to the startup team, and you will receive feedback.
Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup post the fellowship
Startup Partner: Diool
Diool helps small merchants in Africa accept payments from customers and pay back suppliers, using tech, data and financial products. The company is shaping the digital platform to facilitate payments processes for all types of merchants by combining mobile distribution and transactions between businesses.
Diool was founded in 2015 and started out as an app that sold prepaid recharges to customers. By 2018, it completed its evolution by pivoting into a financial services aggregator that provides several payment methods for small merchants to accept payments or repay suppliers.
It focuses on small merchants, distributors, digital and physical products providers, starting in Cameroon, with a vision to expand into Central and West Africa, and then the world!
Diool is looking for an individual with the background and skills as a product owner or business analyst who is passionate about building products.
You should be comfortable with using data-driven methods and be able to manage the success of software products through experiments, established tools, and work with cross-functional teams to design, build and roll out products.
As a product manager, you will be responsible for product planning and execution throughout the product life cycle. You will be responsible for gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements and building user stories to help designers (UX/UI + graphic) & developers (front and back end) transform them into products that customers will love.
Create product strategy documents that detail user stories, product/technical requirements with prioritized features, and corresponding justification for prototype design and final product development by engineering teams.
Collaborate closely with engineering, production, marketing, and sales teams on the development, QA, and release of products and balance of resources to ensure success for the entire organization
Develop product positioning and messaging that differentiates it across primary market segments
Run beta and pilot programs with early-stage products and samples
Create tools (using code or no code) to simplify and automate daily tasks
Reports to: CEO
Minimum of 4 years experience as a Product Owner or Business Analyst.
Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong technical and analytical skills
Excellent teamwork skills
Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
Ability to execute independently and autonomously
