We are looking for a mid-level Backend Software Engineer to help Meltwater build the next-generation content ingestion platform. Content (Meltwater's Content & Ingestion division) is a team of 20+ engineers, product owners, and agile coaches across the world. You will join a team focused on editorial content ingestion, thus providing our customers with the highest quality, most relevant, and timely content possible. Our team is currently located in Budapest, but we also offer a flexible work from anywhere policy. We’re also working with other teams from all over the world on a daily basis, so you’ll truly work and meet with lots of different kinds of people.
About the team
You will join a very dynamic, autonomous team of four people. While we already all have families, we also enjoy after work team activities, so younger people can also find their place among us. Our current team setup was created 1,5 years ago, but we’ve also worked together on our previous, bigger team, so you can say that our group collaboration is pretty mature. In our team there are no dedicated roles, meaning everyone works on everything, and we are giving special attention to not create knowledge silos in the team, as we all are responsible for all of our services together. While each of us have different skill sets and technical preferences, we love to learn from and help each other, so this is the right place for you if you want to boost your career and improve your skills.
Our team’s mission
Our team mostly works with web crawlers that ingest public or private documents from the internet. We periodically get information from the web and extract relevant data to be served for Meltwater’s clients. While we are currently a backend heavy team, in the future, it’s possible that we would have some simpler tasks on the frontend side as well, so we’re looking for someone who would be open to venture into unknown territories.
Our services are implemented by building on the most modern containerization and serverless technologies, hosting them on either Kubernetes or AWS’s technologies. Because we are an autonomous team and our applications are deployed in the cloud, we take great pride in the DevOps mindset and skills that allow us to manage all of our services and resources as a team. This means that we 100% own our services, from designing, through deploying to maintaining them, making sure they’re up all the time. To enable us to always keep our services running, our team does a weekly on-call rotation, meaning we’re looking after our components even in our free time. Once you’re up-to-speed and comfortable within our team, you’d be expected to join the on-call rotation.
As for technologies, our most used tools from AWS’s offerings are Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, Postgres Aurora, S3, SQS and SNS, just to name a few. We also build upon and use Kafka and Kubernetes provided by different Meltwater teams. We also put great emphasis on monitoring our applications using the mix of the ELK stack, Grafana and Datadog.
