Embedded Software Design Engineer

Northvolt is a European supplier of high-quality battery cells and systems, made in an environmentally sustainable way. The company was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest recycling capabilities.

In the plant located in Gdańsk we produce energy storage systems and battery modules that replace internal combustion engines in industrial machines. Currently Northvolt Poland is increasing its manufacturing capabilities by building a highly-automated, state-of-the-art production plant.

With our rapid expansion, we are looking for Embedded Software Design Engineer for our current facility.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for one or several defined process areas which includes deep knowledge in green field factory test equipment software design, implementation and validation
  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded systems
  • Collaborate with Development Team and our partners suppliers
  • Collaborate with Northvolt process and factory design teams to efficiently integrate the process and test equipment software

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications / Experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience within embedded software development
  • Successful track record of electronic hardware equipment development projects
  • Expertise in C and Python would be a PLUS
  • Hands-on software development for hardware peripherals like timers, SPI, I2C, UART, CAN communication protocols, sequencers
  • Hands-on embedded software development and maintenance processes and tools like Version Control System (GitHub), Continuous Integration, HIL
  • Experience with evolving products, microcontroller-based test-boxes, test equipment development, data acquisition equipment, from prototype to industrial quality product, in a fast-growing environment ideally in the Food, Pharma, Paper & Pulp, Semiconductor, Electrochemical or similar industry. Experience with Gage R&R, xFMEA and test coverage analysis is welcomed.
  • Curious, technical, senior level.
  • Expected education level: M.Sc. in computer science, electronics, or similar
  • Excellent English written and oral skills

The factory is a highly automated, state-of-the-art production facility for battery modules and energy storage solutions.

We are currently in an exciting fast-growing phase and operate in a dynamic environment, dealing with a wide range of stakeholders. We are staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs in Västerås, as well as Northvolt Battery Systems Jeden, in Gdansk, for production of battery systems. We are also preparing for upcoming positions at the main factory, Northvolt Ett, in Skellefteå.
