Northvolt has an exciting job offer for Discipline Lead - Electrical. We are looking for self-driven, technically competent, and savvy Electrical leads to join our in-house construction design and engineering team. In joining us you will play an important role in building some of the first large scale European battery factories and in the transition to a carbon-free society.

Our team is highly international and is working on the design and execution of our Northvolt Ett cell factory and our Revolt recycling facility, both located in Skellefteå, Sweden, as well as the expansion of our existing facilities in Västerås, Sweden and in Gdańsk, Poland.

You will primarily be working on the design of our greenfield project for a new battery system production facility in Gdańsk, Poland. Ideal candidate would be local to Gdańsk, or willing to relocate there for the duration of the project. For the right candidate, we may also consider someone based in Stockholm and willing to frequently travel to Poland as part of this assignment. This role reports to the Design Coordination and Interface Manager in construction and will work very closely with the Battery Systems Industrialization team.

As Electrical Discipline Lead, you will enable the design of Northvolt factories and facilities. You will have the overall responsibility for coordinating, reviewing, and approving Electrical design drawings, reports, and as-built documents of Northvolt facilities.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Engage with internal stakeholders to gather functional requirements for the facility.
  • Interface with external consultants to ensure these requirements are understand and form the basis of the electrical design, distribution, redundancy, emergency power, and ATEX requirements.
  • Exploring applicable alternate design concepts, with emphasis on cost and schedule trade-offs.
  • Coordinate regularly with other engineering disciplines to ensure design cohesiveness. 
  • Support the project as needed during building permit review and approval phase.

  • Support the field execution teams through construction administration phases.

Skills & Requirements


  • M.Sc. in Electrical engineering or a Chartered Electrical Engineer
  • Have experience working in a design function on technically complex projects with strong management control
  • Have experience in the HV, MV, and LV distribution design of heavy industrial or manufacturing facilities
  • Have experience interfacing with equipment suppliers to align on technical requirements and delivery schedules
  • Be familiar with general building code legislation and requirements
  • Excellent communication skills as the role requires constant interaction with team members and external parties such as contractors, vendors, authorities and auditors.
  • Experience working on international projects and in multi-cultural environments
