Are you looking to get into cyber security? Then this role could be exactly what you're looking for!

F-Secure delivers research-led cyber security to defend organisations from real-world attacks and build resilience into their approach. Our people (Fellows) are a mix of technical and creative experts – diverse, talented, and passionate people – working to help us advance the industry with innovative thinking. They lead their own development, in and out of the office.

Our consulting team is growing, and we are looking for graduate-level consultants to join us in our Johannesburg office. As a consultant, you will have the opportunity to work with our clients on a variety of projects ranging from securing web/mobile applications and the underlying on-premises or cloud infrastructure, to assisting with incident response efforts. The role does not require any previous experience in cyber security but rather a passion and eagerness to learn. In your first few months you will receive training and the opportunity to work with more experienced consultants, to enable you to get up and running.

F-Secure has a commitment to research and we encourage our team to push the boundaries of what is possible! Based on your skillset and inclination, a percentage of your time will be dedicated to conducting research to ensure your skills remain relevant in the fast-paced world of security. This time can be used to investigate new software, hardware or protocols; or develop new tooling to support delivery of our services. Where appropriate, you will share your research outcomes internally and/or with the world on our labs page - https://labs.f-secure.com.

To be successful at F-Secure and help our clients with their challenges you'll need the following:

  • A passion for security! - You love computers, you are curious about security and hacking things, and you love solving problems. If this wasn't your job it would be your hobby.
  • Self-motivation - You're not going to be told what to do all the time. You are capable of figuring out what to spend time on, that is of benefit to F-Secure and our clients and then running with it. With great freedom comes great responsibility and you also seek out guidance from those around you when you need it.
  • Communication skills - How can we add value to our clients organisations unless we can tell them what we did, how we did it, and how they can fix it? Communication also extends to sharing your knowledge with your colleagues and the wider industry.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct security assessments on a variety of systems, environments and technologies within a client's organisation
  • Provide tailored, pragmatic security advice at multiple levels within a client's organisation
  • Scope projects to ensure that expectations are set and met, in accordance with the client's needs
  • Contribute to research, tooling development and/or continuous improvement of our services

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field e.g. computer/electronic engineering, computer science OR equivalent experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Bonus Points

  • Previous experience conducting security assessments
  • Security certifications such as OSCP, OSEP and OSCE

What you will get from us
We will invest in your development and help you grow in your chosen areas of interest within cyber security.

You will get:

  • A competitive salary and benefits including matching retirement annuity contributions, disability cover and wellbeing support
  • 1 on 1 coaching and mentorship with experienced and well-respected professionals
  • Access to our state-of-the-art bespoke training platform
  • Classroom-based learning sessions, the opportunity to attend external training courses and security conferences
  • Funding to pursue accreditations and certifications such as OSCP, OSEP, CRT, CSPA and GIAC
  • To be part of a global organisation with opportunities to collaborate and work with Fellows solving various cyber security challenges, outside of consulting
