Northvolt has an exciting job offer for an ESS Extension Program Manager to join our Battery Systems amazing team with the mission of building state-of-the-art manufacturing site of battery modules and energy storage systems.

Within Northvolt Battery Systems’ program for ESS Expansion, the ESS Expansion Manager will be responsible to ensure that program activities performed in Poland (i.e. permitting, factory construction, commissioning and start-up) are conducted within the approved budget and schedule, that interfaces with other parts of the Program (i.e. prototyping, process and equipment development) are clearly identified and delivered on time, and that risks are effectively identified and mitigated. In addition, the ESS Expansion Manager will support and coordinate the planning and execution of the ramp-up of production and maintenance in the Battery Systems Dwa factory, including resource ramp-up, training, work processes and instructions, service partner selection (utilities, O&M services,etc.)

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead budgeting and value engineering activities related to the factory construction, in cooperation with the Factory Construction Manager, the Factory Construction Design Manager, and the PMO Manager.
  • In cooperation with the PMO team, support the Factory Construction Manager and the Factory Construction Design Manager to define and execute acceleration plans when needed to meet the timeline of the factory development.
  • In collaboration with the Factory Construction Manager and the Factory Construction Design Manager, maintain an updated register of risks and opportunities for the factory development, and actively manage the associated action plan (esp. risk mitigation actions).
  • Coordinate interfaces between the factory development team and the rest of the program (industrialization and product development teams). Cooperate with the PMO team to identify and schedule the exchange of information critical to the timely delivery of the factory development.
  • In cooperation with the Human Resource function, and Operations Management function of Northvolt Poland, plan and coordinate the execution of the ramp-up of production and maintenance capabilities ahead of the start of production of the Battery Systems Dwa factory, including resource growth strategy and partnerships,

Skills & Requirements


  • A university degree, preferably in Engineering or Business
  • PMI certification or MBA a plus
  • Relevant experience required (i.e. directly linked to the requirements of the position/role)
  • Minimum 7 years of experience post graduate
  • Working experience either in Project Management, Bids, Sales, Contracts & Legal, Procurement, Engineering or Operations
  • Has experience in working in a multicultural environment (e.g. working in international teams, international projects etc)

Specific skills:

  • Working with customer-oriented projects used to being the link between the customer and Northvolt
  • Capable of planning and coordinating activities, getting things done and exceeding the customer expectations
  • Experience of integrated Project Controls using Work Breakdown Structures
  • MS Project, Wrike or other planning tool
  • Budget and resource planning
