Are you an inspirational leader that can bring our organization to a world class safety culture? We now have an exciting job offer for a Health, Environment and Safety Manager to join our stellar team at Northvolt in Västerås in the Campus Labs program.

The Campus Labs program is responsible of creating and building the Northvolt R&D capacity in Västerås which amongst others means building construction and machine installation projects.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

As Health, Environment and Safety Manager in the Program you will make sure that health, environment, safety and security meets the highest standards and complies with the legislation and internal rules and routines.

You will have the responsibility as BAS-P in all ongoing construction or modification projects and you will contribute to a construction that is built according to Swedish work environment legislation. You will work intimately with the construction team and participate in the planning and design to secure a safe work environment during the construction phase.

You enjoy stepping away from your computer and also spend time on the shop floor. You appreciate interacting with your colleagues and motivate them to contribute to a great safety culture at Northvolt in everything that is built, constructed and installed.

In general you have a long experience in the field and have been working in large scale construction projects with high demands on security.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety

  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law

  • Build and coach a world class health, environment safety and security team

  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics

  • Participate in the planning and design of new Northvolt facilities in Västerås in the BAS-P role
  • Co-oordinate the planning and design with respect to work environment, to make sure that parties involved take each other’s planning and solutions into account to avoid risks of ill-health and accidents.

  • To cooperate with construction work environment coordinators for the execution of construction or civil engineering work (BAS-U), and continuously monitor the result of the coordination in such a way that detected deficiencies and risks are corrected.

  • To participate in risk assessments and other investigations, with the aim of ensuring that the design leads to any future risks in using the facility being detected and addressed at the earliest possible stage.

  • To prepare documentation describing the structure and design of the object and the building products used, in all respects to the extent of importance for safety and health in connection with work on the operation, maintenance, repair, alternation and demolition of the object.

  • Participate in the design of the Work Environment plan as well as the prior notification to the Work Environment Authority required for the project.

Skills & Requirements


  • A degree in relevant field
  • 5+ years working experience in Health, Safety, Environment Management
  • Curious, technically educated and with a strong business background
  • Must have worked in multi-cultural environment
  • Experience and interest in manufacturing industry is a plus
