Mentimeter’s vision is to transform presentations and meetings into fun and interactive experiences by making it easy to listen and to be heard. To achieve this vision, we must meet the demands of our current 150 million user-base, and scale to meet the needs of the next 150 million. The DevOps team at Mentimeter will enable our growing product team to work in a way that makes this possible.

We believe that DevOps cannot be performed in a vacuum. The best ways to improve engineering culture are to spread knowledge and good practice through the organization, and to reduce work through automation. We are therefore looking for team members who are technical enough to automate processes where possible and passionate enough to demonstrate to others the value of their craft.

For everything we do at Mentimeter, we strive to automate and simplify. We keep our platform advanced enough to support our main use cases while keeping its complexity and maintenance cost low. If there is an external provider or SaaS that provides a good solution, we tend to choose it over building one ourselves. We like to spend our time developing what matters, rather than what others have already made. For example, we currently prefer to useHeroku and Datadog rather than Kubernetes and Prometheus. We hope that you share this vision and help us to strike the right balance in these discussions going forward.

As a DevOps Engineer at Mentimeter, we want you to have a keen interest in all aspects of the software development lifecycle. You are always looking for bottlenecks in how engineers work, finding ways to remove them through automation. You will also play an active role in the improvement of our CI/CD pipeline. We strive to keep our self-service deployment times below 10 minutes, and when problems arise during deployment, you will be continuously looking for ways to surface those problems earlier in development.

You will be actively involved in discussions regarding the future architecture of our system helping to promote architectures that are easy to build, test and deploy. You will also help us maintain confidence in our deployment infrastructure while we re-evaluate our mono/multi-repo approach to development.

What you’ll do:

  • Propose and build tooling which automates toil and enables engineers

  • Help ensure we have a smooth software pipeline for continuous and fast delivery

  • Continuously look for performance bottlenecks that might appear in business-critical services or developers’ day-to-day work

  • Increase knowledge sharing within your area of expertise across the product organization

  • Work together with your team to implement features while ensuring the long-term stability of our system and the quality of the code

  • You will have an influence on which tools, programming languages, and technologies you (and the rest of the organization) work with

  • Balance discovery phases with implementation work

  • Influence important decisions that will affect our future scalability and architecture

Work with great people

Soner
Front-end Developer
"Dog videos vs. Cat videos is the ever ongoing fight of Internet. Soner has clearly picked a side: Doggos. The cuter and hairier the better."
Federica
Sales Manager Europe
"All the way from Italian metropolitan via small town of Switzerland to Stockholm to be a part of the Menti-family. It's like it was written in the stars (check the cancer sign)."
Anna
Product Manager
"Anna is a Stockholmer and a part of the Mentimeter KTH alumni crew. When she's not innovating at Mentimeter, she's doing jumping jacks on the handball court or partying in the USA."
Carl
Head of Brand
"As a kid Carl wanted to be a fashion designer, but ended up doing the next best thing - branding and PR. When he's not at Menti he's touring Sweden with his cover band (apparently they're terrible)."

More about Mentimeter

Mentimeter is a product-first, tech-heavy, fast-growing, inclusive and profitable startup built by engineers. Back in 2014, we felt that boring and inefficient meetings had to go, so we decided to create a platform to change this. Six years later, Mentimeter is recognized as the fastest-growing Swedish startup, with 150 million users and customers from over 150 countries; the journey has just begun.

Mentimeter is a high transaction system built in React, Ruby, Node and Go with a PostgreSQL database for persistence, Redis for caching and queuing, AWS Redshift for Business Intelligence, CloudFront as a CDN, and WebSockets to enable a fast and interactive polling experience. We host on Heroku and use Github Actions and Concourse for CI. We monitor using Datadog.

Our core principles and basis for our culture:

  • Inclusiveness - transparency, equality and diversity

  • Work smart - good enough, but know when to excel

  • Professionalism - "the consultant mindset"

  • Be humble to other people’s work

  • Have fun

We at Mentimeter believe in giving everyone a voice - regardless of who you are. So we build a platform that does just that. Our platform is not only our product but also our organization. It is a platform where people feel safe, where differences are embraced, a place where you can have fun. We strongly encourage applicants who are people of color, LGBTQ, women, people with disabilities, and/or formerly incarcerated people, and a college degree is not strictly required. To give everyone a voice, we need to be as diverse as our users.
