The DevOps team at Mentimeter will enable our growing product team to work in a way that makes this possible.
We believe that DevOps cannot be performed in a vacuum. The best ways to improve engineering culture are to spread knowledge and good practice through the organization, and to reduce work through automation. We are therefore looking for team members who are technical enough to automate processes where possible and passionate enough to demonstrate to others the value of their craft.
For everything we do at Mentimeter, we strive to automate and simplify. We keep our platform advanced enough to support our main use cases while keeping its complexity and maintenance cost low. If there is an external provider or SaaS that provides a good solution, we tend to choose it over building one ourselves. We like to spend our time developing what matters, rather than what others have already made. For example, we currently prefer to use Heroku and Datadog rather than Kubernetes and Prometheus. We hope that you share this vision and help us to strike the right balance in these discussions going forward.
As an SRE, you will help the product team reach an appropriate level of reliability and performance across our services. If a presentation fails because of Mentimeter, it reflects poorly on both the presenter and us - we wouldn’t expect them to use our service again. You are continuously looking for bottlenecks in our infrastructure and suggesting ways to address them. You will also collaborate closely with engineers from other teams in the design and implementation of new services.
You are always looking for new ways to automate toil. When operations take a turn for the worse, you will be a part of active incident resolution, and push for a long-term resolution by taking the lead in post-mortems.
As the first dedicated SRE at Mentimeter, you will have a unique opportunity to shape our SRE strategy in the long run, helping us choose what technologies and structure to use as we continue to scale.
What you’ll do:
Set key indicators for the reliability and performance of the platform (from MTTR to service latency)
Continuously monitor business-critical services
Help resolve incidents and lead their post-mortems
Suggest and implement projects to address bottlenecks and achieve reliability targets
Help shape Mentimeter’s SRE strategy
Increase knowledge sharing within your area of expertise across the product organization
Collaborate with your team to implement features while ensuring the long-term stability of our system and quality of code
You will have an influence on which tools, programming languages, and technologies you (and the rest of the organization) work with
Balance discovery phases with implementation work
Influence essential decisions that will affect our future scalability and architecture
We believe you have:
At least a few years of relevant working experience
Preferably an academic background
Experience in some of the techniques we use (see below)
Passion for software development, scalable architecture and product building
A strong interest in testing and automation and care about code quality
Excellent communication skills and can work both independently and collaborate in a team
You don’t have to know Swedish (we are an English-first organisation, everyday work is in English and the Mentimeter team currently boasts over 20 different nationalities!)
