To achieve this vision, we must meet the demands of our current 150 million user base and scale to meet the future. This puts a high demand on our engineering organization, and we are planning on doubling our team within the next 18 months while maintaining our culture, innovation speed, and delivery quality. In this journey, we are looking for a VP of Engineering to work together with our CTO and engineering managers to build a world-class engineering organization. In 2021 we are supporting the tech and product organization that is growing from around 40 to over 80 colleagues, and we want to create a solid foundation that can scale even more.
As VP Engineering of Mentimeter, you should be a great manager, communicator, recruiter, and team builder. You should have a deep interest and experience in building (recruiting, structuring, and leading) a tech organization. Your job will be to make everyone in the engineering organization successful, and you are expected to fix the issues that are getting in the way of success.
We work in independent, self-organized, cross-functional, and diverse teams with clear responsibility areas and key performance metrics. The teams’ Product Manager and Engineering Lead work together to organize and plan the backlog using agile processes focusing on continuously delivering great features to our users while keeping excellent product quality. We also have a range of support functions, including Production Directors and a DevOps/Platform Team. We expect you to recognize our current engineering culture but also to challenge and evolve it to help us meet our ambitious long-term goals and standards.
Responsibilities you will have:
Accountability for organizational development together with VP Product
Strategic planning for key engineering staffing
Ensure we have an excellent development process and delivery of the product
Ensure the recruitment of engineering roles to fulfill the Product team needs
Identify and set strategic goals for the engineering organization
Design, implement and monitor all operational and key performance metrics/operational efficiency
Create and maintain career paths for our engineers
Work closely together with CTO and other Engineering Managers to develop and maintain our engineering culture and ways of working
Preparing and optimizing staff budget
What you will not do:
Tech vision for our platform (the CTO does that)
Supplier relationships (the CTO does that)
Product road map (VP Product, CPO, and Product Managers does that)
Programming (your Engineering colleagues does that)
We believe you:
Have a strong engineering background, preferably academic
Have extensive experience in building an excellent and diverse engineering team
Have experience from similar responsibilities in your career
Are a great communicator and relationship builder
Love to share knowledge and encourage others to do the same
Are data-driven and can set and follow up clear goals
Know how to recruit and develop top engineering talent
Have a strong background within agile development practices
Have had different leadership roles in expanding companies including line management responsibility
Have been a developer at some point in your career
Are knowledgeable about industry trends and best practices
Not required:
You don’t have to know Swedish (we are an English-first organization, everyday work is in English and the Mentimeter team currently boasts over 20 different nationalities!)
