You will be given the opportunity to develop li-ion battery modules, packs and systems as well as being a part of building one of the first European large-scale lithium-ion battery factories.
We are looking for an outstanding Solid Mechanics Engineer who combines superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively.

You will be working with all aspects of Solid Mechanics from analytical calculations to Finite Element Analysis (FEM) of our products. As first person onboard with this expertise you will have the opportunity to build and influence your work from scratch.
In general, you have a good amount of experience in the field and have been driving large, innovative and challenging projects with high demands on functionality, robustness and design.
As Solid Mechanics Engineer you will be working with FEM modelling and analytical calculations for all parts of our systems, from cell level to battery pack level at an early design stage for concept verification.
You will perform strength calculations, structural dynamics analyses and life assessment for linear and non-linear systems.
You will support our development projects with your solid mechanics expertise.
You will perform test planning, testing and evaluation of test data.
You will set up analysis methodology with respect to solid mechanics and FEM.
You will be responsible for shaping the future of solid mechanics and FEM within Northvolt.
You will be responsible for strategies, methods and development tools within FEM at Northvolt.
You will participate in design reviews and include your findings to create a better product.
You will quickly and effectively communicate your findings to internal/external stakeholders to improve the design.
You will collaborate with other engineering teams for system optimization and you will be open to new proposals and have a problem-solving attitude.

Skills & Requirements
MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent.
At least 5 years of experience in the relevant field. Experience in battery module and pack development is a plus.
Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEM).
Excellent general solid mechanics knowledge but also experience in areas such as static analysis, dynamic analysis, buckling, fatigue analysis, thermal stress, fracture mechanics and weld evaluation.
Proficiency in modern FEA software such as Ansys, Abaqus, Simcenter 3D or equivalent.
Proficiency in numerical methods and analysis of physical systems.
Proficiency in Python, Matlab or equivalent scientific programming language.
Experience in planning and conducting testing.
Excellent English written and oral skills, Swedish is a plus.
Proactive and goes beyond expectations.

Ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines, excellent time management.
