HOW IT WORKS

  • Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.

  • Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, receive training from expert mentors, and get to understand market nuances.

  • Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startups while being paid a stipend. Final projects will be presented to the startup team, and you will receive feedback.

  • Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup post the fellowship

Startup Partner: Sokowatch

Sokowatch is transforming communities across Africa by revolutionizing access to essential goods and services. By connecting small merchants to the digital economy, we fix inefficient supply chains and provide services previously unavailable to informal businesses. Sokowatch aims to provide everything a retailer needs, no wholesalers or banks necessary.

Project Description

Sokowatch is seeking an entrepreneurial young professional who can combine best practices from the product development field with data visualization and SQL skills to assist in developing our business analytics capabilities.

Project Deliverables

  • Assist and participate in the development of attributes within the Product roadmap
  • Identify business needs and opportunities for the Product Intelligence business working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the report development process from idea generation to launch. This includes developing metric definitions, creating requirements, liaising with stakeholders
  • Build new data marts and workflows as needed to deliver self-serve analytics to key stakeholders
  • Design informative, beautiful and intuitive dashboarding tools and data visualizations
  • Assist in drafting and editing documentation of our data processing and analytics infrastructure

Reports to: Product Manager, Data Analytics

Skills & Requirements

  • BA/BS Bachelor’s Degree – 4-year degree in economics, statistics
  • Minimum 1 year of product management or similar business experience; 2-3 years preferred
  • Intermediate or stronger ability in SQL
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment under pressure, adhere to deadlines
  • Entrepreneurial drive to take ownership for assigned product strategy and execution to achieve growth goals
  • A strong combination of analytical and communication skills – Ability to create product strategy from stakeholder analysis
