Senior ESS Commissioning Engineer

Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a Senior ESS Commissioning Engineer to join our passionate team in Stockholm.

In joining us you will be responsible for planning commissioning activities of Northvolts ESS products, and to bring input to the Design of ESS product to improve Commissioning and Serviceability. On- and off-site corrective and preventive maintenance and aftersales technical support is part of the job, and to interact and provide customers with information and procedures to address the inquiries, concerns and requests.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and lead commissioning of Northvolts ESS products.
  • Take part in ESS design and customer projects with a Commisioning perspective and review designs
  • Supervise and approve commissioning plans in accordance with project guidelines.
  • Supervise/perform onsite commissioning activities.
  • Prepare and maintain commission records of site observations, testing processes and checklists.
  • Responsible for commissioning report for system turn on approval.
  • Train customers on how to operate and maintain Northvolt products.

Skills & Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or relevant field experience
  • 5-10 years experience working with ESS applications in the field
  • Experience working in development projects

Specific skills (eg specific programmes, languages, certifications etc)

  • Excellent English written and oral skills
  • Local language skills
  • Excellent mechanical/electrical skills
  • Great knowledge about computer software and hardware.
  • Valid driver’s license

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.
