  • Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.
  • Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, receive training from expert mentors, and get to understand market nuances.
  • Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startups while being paid a stipend. Final projects will be presented to the startup team, and you will receive feedback.
  • Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup post the fellowship


Startup Partner: Turaco

Turaco is an inclusive micro-insurtech startup that frees people from the fear of financial shocks. The company works through sector‑agnostic business partnerships to design and distribute simple and useful health and life insurance products to their end‑users in emerging markets. Presently, Turaco has a footprint in Kenya and Uganda where they offer low‑cost insurance cover in a bid to actualize its audacious vision of insuring a billion people within the next 25 years, doubling the current global standing.

Project Description

Turaco is looking for a project management guru to lead the design and implementation of its project management processes and systems. You’ll work alongside cross-functional teams to understand key partnership projects and develop a process-driven approach on how the company launches and manages large complex projects.

In this role, you’ll have insight into all teams to bridge Turaco’s commercial, operational, and customer success strategy to scale B2B partnerships in a more successful and structured way.

You’ll need to be comfortable influencing senior stakeholders, including the company founders and other executives, gaining their buy-in and support. You’ll additionally have great organisational skills and have proven experience leading large scale projects from the planning phase to implementation to monitoring and control.

Project Deliverables

  • Create a systematic, process-driven playbook as Turaco’s guide for how to approach project management for partnerships

Reports to: Head of Growth

Skills & Requirements

  • Proven experience managing end to end process for large scale complex projects
  • Excellent organisation and multitasking skills, to plan the use of people and resources to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with various stakeholders
  • Holds project management certification, bonus, not required
  • Comfortable working in an environment where change is constant;
