Skills & Requirements

As editorial director of Lagom, you will take your knowledge of the “Mind, Body, Spirit” sector and bring it to bear on a list of 10-15 new books a year in the areas of personal development, health and beauty, wellness, parenting, spirituality and mindfulness. You will bring with you excellent contacts with a wide range of agents, authors, ghost-writers and talent managers, and a proven track record in publishing successful, bestselling books in the lifestyle and wellbeing markets.

Importantly you will be digitally savvy, with good commercial market knowledge and a strong sense of initiative. You will be someone who does not sit back and wait for books to come to you, but someone actively seeks to anticipate trends and commission bestsellers from a variety of sources.

This position will suit publishers who are used to working in fast-paced and exciting environments, who are excellent communicators and strong team players, who are full of ideas and love driving through them through to fruition.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Acquiring, editing and publishing 10-15 titles a year on our Lagom list
  • Reporting into the non-fiction Publisher, and working alongside our non-fiction editorial team and the wider business you will have significant input in list strategy, branding and awareness

  • A proven track record including at least 2 years of commissioning experience

  • Negotiating experience
