  • Get Matched: Apply and get matched with a VFA startup partner in your area of interest.

  • Get Immersed: Spend 3 months in this role, during which you will be immersed in the local context, receive training from expert mentors, and get to understand market nuances.

  • Get Working: Work on real project deliverables for your assigned startups while being paid a stipend. Final projects will be presented to the startup team, and you will receive feedback.

  • Get Hired: While full-time roles are not guaranteed, you are fast-tracked through ordinary application processes for available full-time roles with the startup post the fellowship


Startup Partner: Victory Farms

Victory Farms is a sustainable aquaculture business that produces tilapia on Lake Victoria and sells primarily in low-income neighbourhoods across Kenya. Their mission is to build a commercial tilapia farm that can feed 2 billion Africans with affordable, accessible and healthy protein over the next two decades, while also taking extensive measures to protect and restore the environment in which the farm operates.

Project Description

Victory Farms wants to bring on an ambitious self-starter to play a leading role in its Commercial organization. You will be working with our Sales, Marketing, and Business Development functions to drive initiatives and comprehensively learn the business.

At the end of the first phase of this engagement, you are expected to transition to the founding team for Victory Farm's first international expansion, most likely into Rwanda. Here you will operate as Commercial co-lead, where you will help launch and scale what is expected to become one of the largest fish farms in Africa. You will report directly to its Deputy Commercial Director and will also work closely with its Director of Expansion.

Project Deliverables

  • Lead development of a sales & marketing strategy for Victory Farms core products.
  • Initiate and coordinate the development of action plans to roll out new branches, markets, verticals.
  • Carry out market research to assess the market potential for prospective expansion opportunities.
  • Track and manage the sales ecosystem, including sales and marketing reps, customers, and prospects.

Reports to: Deputy Commercial Director

Skills & Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in sales with at least 2+ years scaling and managing a successful sales team (experience in the Food & Beverage space a plus).
  • Experience in a quota-carrying role; responsible for meeting and exceeding a quarterly goal.
  • Excellent mentoring, coaching and people management skills.
  • Good knowledge of the sales process.
  • Must have high energy levels.
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management tools a plus.
  • Ability to combine and analyze reports for the purposes of forecasting.
