We are looking for an Industrial Designer guru to join our Battery Systems team in Stockholm. As an Industrial Designer, you´ll work as a team-player in multidisciplinary teams or in a more independent way, to create successful products for the future of energy that tell solid stories and provide great user experience.

You have several years of experience working hands-on with product design and industrial design – with focus on both the hardware and software aspect of the product. You are used to taking a holistic and user-centred design approach to any product development project or design problem. You have worked with a broad range of products, from consumer electronics to highly industrial and heavy-duty products (business to business, B2B). Preferably, you have worked with users of and design of battery products and/or within the energy field. You have a strong sense of aesthetics, form and ergonomics.

Our teams at Northvolt all work tightly together with a low level of hierarchy, and we encourage different backgrounds and levels of experience. You will be a part of a highly collaborative, driven and motivated team. At Northvolt Battery Systems, we optimise for excellent, safe, highly sustainable and scalable products. Our team is very inclusive, helpful and we love to boost each others great, non-conventional or bold ideas. We solve all problems as a team, and feel a strong sense of ownership in the things we design.

What you will do

  • Generation of innovative and solid concept designs with a user centered design approach.
  • Design and prototype products down to the very detail to make life easy for the users.
  • Conduct field-research and synthesise results to guide concept design phases.
  • Aim at a rationalist, minimal and elegant design, always consistent with requirement specifications and fitting into a greater product portfolio design language.
  • Ideate mechanic and kinematic solutions to be developed jointly with engineering teams.
  • Ensure the feasibility of your ideas by exploring alternative solutions in terms of product architectures, material and manufacturing processes.
  • Test and implement your ideas early on in the process through both sketching, CAD and model making.
  • Guiding product development from initial research and concepts to successful products.
  • Communicating ideas and concepts to designers, engineers and other roles within the organisation.
  • Maintaining a continued understanding of the competition, industry, standards and relevant trends.
  • Collaborate with other design systems teams on evolving our shared processes and tooling to support a large number of teams working on a diverse array of products.
  • Be a key driver of the evolution of Northvolt’s product design language.
  • Create renderings and product images for internal and external usage.
  • Set the visual guideline for the overall look and feel of the products.
  • Set the guideline for common user features such as handles, labels and user panels.
  • Be comfortable both setting guidelines and also maintaining the usage of them within the design engineering team.
