Northvolt is embarking on a unique journey to create one of Europe's leading industrial companies from scratch - as such we are now looking to hire a Director of Human Resources who wants to make their mark on the world in general, and in Skellefteå in particular.

The role is focused around building the processes, systems and policies that will drive excellence within attraction and retention of talents within Nortvholt Ett in Skellefteå, as well as building a "safety fist" culture.

You will be part of the Management Team of Northvolt Ett, and run the Talent team consisting of HR, Learning, Communication & Office. You will also be working closely with the Central Talent Team consisting of Growth (mass recruiting, search and Talent Acquisition), HR, Compensation, Brand & Offices. You will be one of the first HR team members on site in Skellefteå, currently consisting of one HR Coordinator, and you will over time be expected to hire and lead a stellar Talent team in Northvolt Ett.

You will report directly to the Senior Director of Manufacturing with a dotted line to the Chief Talent Officer in Stockholm. You are expected to lead the HR agenda in the building up phase of Northvolt Ett.

In general you have a long experience in the field and have been driving large, innovative and challenging HR projects with high demands on both strategic and operational excellence.

Specifically, you have a deep understanding of working with HR related questions within preferably a manufacturing context and with a proven successful achievement from union relations and collective bargaining agreements, as well as from creating all HR policies to comply with legislation.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Building a world-class HR operation (hire, lead and systems)
  • Convert business strategies into HR operations, support Northvolt leaders to deliver on company goals and drive culture
  • Designing and implementing policies that drive positive employee experience
  • Ensuring legal compliance, collective bargaining agreements and bargaining processes being primary contact for general counsel concerning employee relation matters
  • Learning & Development, Compensation & Benefits, Performance Management, Talent and Succession planning, Employer Branding, Occupational health care processes etc

The person we are looking for is a strongly business oriented people's person, decisive and knowledgeable. You need to be strategic but also operational (especially during first years while factory and team are being built) - prestige and ego have no place at Northvolt.

Skills & Requirements


  • A Relevant University Degree within either technical or social sciences
  • 15 years working experience in HR functions or within industrial setting
  • Good knowledge of employment law and labour law in Sweden
  • Successful track record of scaling HR-operations in a fast growing environment ideally in the industrial/manufacturing industry
  • Knowledge and experience of payroll and HR-systems
  • Curious, technically educated and with a strong business background
  • Must have worked in multi-cultural environment
  • Experience and interest in manufacturing industry is a plus

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.
