An exciting opportunity has arisen for an entrepreneurial Product Developer French Pastry to join our Lantmännen Unibake team at our production site in Moeskroen.

This is what you will do

As Product Developer French-Pastry, you will create new product developments (NPDs) in accordance with our product strategy pipeline. These are both market as customer driven innovations that reach our customers and consumers worldwide. How?

  • By matching customer expectations and steering on cost price & timings
  • By managing the NPD-project end-to-end: from briefing until roll-out in production.

The Product Developer is part of a dedicated team that works in a multidisciplinary and international context, and who will be reporting to the Product Manager French Pastry.

Primary areas of responsibility:

  • Project management of all new product development processes and customer adaptations
    • You’ll either gather customer expectations on product features (crust, crumb, taste, appearance, etc.) or receive input from the Category Business Leader on a newly created concept
    • You’ll be in close contact with suppliers and create/adjust recipes to develop a “proto-product” that – after validation – will be scaled up to an industrial production process
    • you will prepare, coordinate and evaluate kitchen and line trials – in accordance with the Test Baker, Production and Quality Assurance team
    • you will give support on line trials when required
    • Ensuring that all new products are developed in line with our product strategy pipeline, thereby meeting commercial, technical and operational objectives.
  • Steer cost driven innovations and work on value engineering processes by requesting and reviewing raw material specifications – thereby working in conjunction with the Corporate Quality & Procurement teams.

  • Maintain a clear overview of all NPD processes – including new raw material screenings, kitchen trial follow-ups and line upscaling processes.

  • Work cross-functionally to consistently ensure a practical creative vision on new ideas in the innovation funnel. Apart from your R&D colleagues, you will work closely with our Category Business Leader French Pastry, Intercompany Manager (who promotes our locally produced products to our sister companies), Production and Quality Managers, Cost Controller and Procurement Manager.

  • Inspire both customers as well as our own sales and marketing colleagues by developing creative ideas and solutions.

Skills & Requirements

Your profile:

  • Lantmännen Unibake is an employer who reflects diversity in his work force, so we’d be happy to give both starters as people with relevant experience the opportunity to join our company.
    • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in food technology
    • Equivalent through experience (min. of 3 years) in the food industry – with a proven record of launching commercially and technically new development concepts and creating laminated & yeasted dough’s and pastries
  • A genuine interest and affinity with the food industry is a must, whilst experience within the bakery industry will be an asset.
  • Demonstrating bakery skills in Pastry would make an absolute advantage.
  • Professional knowledge of both Dutch and English, and a good level of French.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office tools.
