Northvolt Zwei has an exciting job offer for a Process Quality Engineer (m/f/d) to join our new quality team in Braunschweig.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

You will be responsible of driving improvement of quality level and performance for process and product in manufacturing in either mixing, coating, stacking, cell assembly or formation.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

  • Establishing PFMEA's, process flow charts and MSA.
  • Defining, establishing and owning the Quality Control plans for each process operation.

  • Set up quality monitoring procedures, quality KPI's, evaluate performance and make improvement proposals, i.e. Process capability: SPC and Cpk.

  • Participate and input to quality gate reviews in the industrialization phase of Product Development to ensure reliable manufacturing of products.

  • Be part of equipment commissioning team and deliver acceptance testing and qualification milestones of new process equipment.
  • Oversee the Quality Control and testing plan, review results and process performance and initiate improvement projects.
  • Lead trouble shooting and root cause analysis activities in relation to con-conformities and quality issues, e.g 8D and non-conformity reporting.
  • Drive quality improvement and optimization projects utilizing six sigma methodology.

  • Expert in complex problem solving and process optimisation, i.e skilled in DMAIC and DoE, multivariat data analysis etc.

  • Collaborate closely with Customer quality engineers to deliver required input to customer projects, e.g. PPAP documentation.

  • Develop, implement and audit standard procedures and instructions.

  • Facilitate establishment of DFMEA's and PFMEA's

  • Train production staff and support development of production documentation, e.g. SOP’.

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • MSc degree in Chemistry/Manufacturing/Engineering.
  • Education in relevant quality and industrialisation discipline

  • Experience in MSA, DMAIC, DoE, PPAP and control plan development.

  • Certified six sigma professional, i.e. green or black belt.

  • Knowledgeable in statistics and multivariate data analysis.

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience within high volume assembly/production.

  • Experience of quality management in relevant industry, e.g. battery, automotive, pharma, food, pulp & paper, FMCG.

  • Knowledge of quality management systems, e.g. ISO 9001, IATF16949, TQM.

  • Experience in developing processes, standards, procedures and documentation in an efficient way to ensure high quality products to meet customer requirements.

  • Project management skills and a successful track record of leading quality improvement/six sigma projects in manufacturing and/or with suppliers

  • Internal auditor certification.

  • Experience from developing training and certification procedures and programs.

  • Knowledgeable in Lean and six sigma.

  • Expert in SPC, process capability, FMEA, Quality troubleshooting tools and problem-solving methodology.

  • Excellent English and German written and oral skills, Swedish is a plus.

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.

We are currently in an exciting fast-growing phase and operate in a busy, fast moving environment, dealing with a wide range of stakeholders. We are staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We are also preparing for upcoming positions at the main factory, Northvolt Ett, in Skellefteå and Northvolt Zwei in Germany.

The Northvolt–Volkswagen Group joint venture is establishing a gigafactory in Salzgitter, Germany. Northvolt Zwei takes its design from the Northvolt blueprint for battery manufacturing developed for Northvolt Ett. Start of construction is planned for 2021 and start of operations beginning of 2024. Initial annual output will be at least 16 GWh.​
