Bonnier Books UK is looking for an accounts assistant to join the team at the Sywell, Northampton office. The accounts assistant will be responsible for providing effective support to the management accounts team and the wider finance team. The accounts assistant will lead on various administrative tasks, financial analysis, and assist with other ad-hoc financial duties.

This is an exciting and varied role for someone at the early stage of a finance career and looking to learn and develop their skills.

Essential job responsibilities

  • Calculation and maintenance of VAT rates and records in the accounting system
  • Daily and monthly bank reconciliation
  • Expense invoice admin support
  • Credit note analysis
  • Maintenance of customer and supplier compensation trackers
  • Monthly VAT returns to group finance
  • Australian GST analysis and return
  • Overhead analysis and accruals
  • Balance sheet reconciliations (including prepayments and accruals)
  • Posting of month-end journals
  • Sales reporting and analysis
  • Reviewing fixed asset register and monthly postings
  • Royalty sales analysis and submissions
  • Assistance with annual and periodic audits
  • Purchase ledger and credit control support as and when required
  • Cover for the billing team (when required) – raising invoices and credit notes
  • Assistance with accounting for USA entity
  • Various other ad-hoc duties required by the finance team and the business

Skills & Requirements

Skills and experience

  • An accountancy qualification is not required
  • Knowledge from studying AAT, foundation level ACCA/CIMA, or a similar course would be beneficial, however it is in not a requirement for the role
  • Some experience working in an busy finance department is beneficial
  • Confident user of the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Confident communicating financial information to all areas of a business
  • Time management and organisation skills
  • Looking for a role in a friendly and team-orientated environment
