Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our passionate team in Stockholm and our business unit- Battery Systems.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

In general you have a long experience in the field and have relevant experience in low voltage power conversion and power systems engineering.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Specification of PCS requirements and overall energy storage system function

  • Actively work with PCS suppliers to develop world-class power electronics for integration in Northvolt’s products

  • Interface with internal software and connectivity teams to embed technology platforms within Northvolt’s PCS integrated products
  • Test, characterize, optimize and validate Northvolt’s High Performance energy storage systems
  • Simulate system performance and expected behavior in various operating scenarios
  • Design the product to meet internal and external safety regulations and standards for energy storage systems

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Electrical engineering degree preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in low voltage power conversion and power systems engineering

  • Experience in connecting and integrating converter-based generation and storage systems with the grid, preferably in novel and technically challenging applications.

  • Experience in power systems engineering, including creating specifications, defining application space, designing technical solution concepts, and building and testing prototypes to validate models/hypotheses and documenting results.
  • Good understanding of AC-DC (inverter/rectifier) DC-DC conversion topologies, pulse-width modulation, power semiconductor (IGBT/MOSFET module) basics
  • An understanding of grid-connection codes and standards (VDE-AR-4105, IEC 50438, IEEE519, EN50549).
  • Software skills in Matlab/Simulink, PSCAD, E3 Zuken.

  • Excellent English written and oral skills, Swedish is a plus
  • Exceptionally good negotiation and problem-solving skills

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.
