Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a Construction Design Manager to join our growing Construction team supporting the establishment of our first giga-factory in Skellefteå.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

The position as Civil Design Manager at Northvolt offers a role at the very core of our Design Organisation. Our team is highly international and right now working towards executing the design of our Northvolt Ett factory.

As our Civil Design Manager you will enable the design of CSA (Civil, Structural, Architectural) for Northvolt turn key battery factories. You will have the overall responsibility for design coordination, review process and as-built of the factories CSA. The duty is also to coordinate, support and perform technical review of CSA of the process equipment suppliers’ deliveries.

As a leader at Northvolt today you will have the opportunity to influence in how we continue to build a competent and dependable team, capable to scale Northvolt’s operations in Sweden and beyond.

In general you are an experienced Design Manager that now want to have the impact on how modern battery factories are being built in a sustainable and scaleable way.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Build and develop Northvolt Construction Design team CSA

  • Responsible for execution of Northvolt Design organization and processes including supplier’s organization for CSA

  • Execute Project Management procedures for design and review activities CSA

  • Execute meeting and reporting structure for design and review CSA

  • Execute procedures for review of process equipment supplier CSA

  • Ensure proper coordination between the Construction design team, the contractor and all other internal and external stakeholders

  • Continuous progress reports and data feeding to Design coordinator Construction regarding Design development

  • Direct and supervise the design activities to ensure the delivery of the battery factory CSA, within the prescribed time and cost as well as in accordance with the quality requirements set by Northvolt

  • Support Construction change orders by technical approval within the limits set by Northvolt policy and governance

  • Review technical data CSA for process equipment during design, FAT and installation phase

  • Prioritizing and driving tasks across the Construction CSA Design team

  • Ensure full compliance with Northvolt policies, regulation and governance

We believe you have a proven track record in successfully delivering large and complex projects in brownfield or greenfield expansion, either in planning and designing phase. Skills & Requirements


  • M.Sc. in Civil Engineering or equivalent degree
  • Fluency in English
  • Proven track record in successfully delivering CSA coordination in large and complex projects in brownfield or greenfield expansion, either in planning and designing phase, and/or execution phase
  • Excellent communication skills as the role requires constant interaction with team members and external parties such as contractors, vendors, authorities and auditors. 
  • Valuable with experience from working in industrial, energy or infrastructure projects
  • Must have worked in multi-cultural environment

Specific Skills/Abilities

  • Personality qualities that we cherish are flexibility, sense of quality, friendliness, motivation to take on new challenges, grit and a sense of humor

  • Extensive Project Manger skills, preferably PMI, IPMA or equivalent
