Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a Contracts Manager to our team in Germany. In joining us you will play an important part in contributing in your area from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

The Contracts Manager will be in charge of the change management for our construction project. You will manage change control and negotiate change orders along with construction management throughout the construction life cycle. You will also be involved in other financial aspects of the construction project such as negotiations and controlling.

The environment has very high demands on flexibility and strategic thinking. We will work with the best solution providers globally.

In general you have a long experience in the field and have been driving large, innovative and challenging construction projects with very high demand on accuracy and scale. Specifically, you have a deep understanding and hands-on experience of coordination between different financial disciplines within large scale construction projects.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage change control and negotiate change orders along with construction management throughout the construction life cycle.
  • Track all contracts and facilitate business during the project life cycle.
  • Validate contractor invoices and claims in relation to the contract T&C’s.
  • Reviewing contractor and subcontractor pricing and leading negotiations to drive fair contract prices.
  • Participate in and run weekly project cost reviews.
  • Contract administration (retention, T&C’s, insurance, contingency, incentives).
  • Monitor schedule progress (actual vs forecast) along with project planners.
  • Attend risk meetings and maintain risk log.
  • Review and participate with the design services team and contractors, in the development of the contract scope.
  • Reconcile changes and assist the contractors to ensure that their data is accurate.
  • Communicate or meet with contractors and project managers to gather status information.
  • Prepare written comments to the contractor’s submissions, including the executive summary.
  • Coordinate with contractors and their sub-contractors relating to document control and maintain register.
  • Inform and drive engineering priorities based on cost impact.
  • Work proactively with minimal supervision to resolve scheduling issues.
  • Participate effectively with post contract cost variances and the change control processes.
  • Manage Cost impact / contingency management and commitment tracking logs.
  • Interpret and explain contracts and technical information to contractors and other professionals.
  • Comply with legal requirements, reporting and other regulations.

Education/Experience

  • Master of Science or higher degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant university degree.
  • BSC/Msc in Quantity Surveying, Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent.
  • Solid experience in all cost management areas, planning, estimating, pre-contract, post contract and final account.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience of large scale building projects.
  • Passionate by solving complex problems with technology in a simple yet innovative way.
  • Track record of successful building projects.
  • Must have worked in multi-cultural environment.

  • Excellent English written and oral skills, German/Swedish is a plus.

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.

We are currently in an exciting fast-growing phase and operate in a busy, fast moving environment, dealing with a wide range of stakeholders. We are staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We are also preparing for upcoming positions at the main factory, Northvolt Ett, in Skellefteå and Northvolt Zwei in Germany.

The Northvolt–Volkswagen Group joint venture is establishing a gigafactory in Salzgitter, Germany. Northvolt Zwei takes its design from the Northvolt blueprint for battery manufacturing developed for Northvolt Ett. Start of construction is planned for 2021 and start of operations beginning of 2024. Initial annual output will be at least 16 GWh.​
