As a Member of the Build team at ILP you will be responsible for creating and maintaining 3D assets for a wide variety of projects. We use primarily Maya, Zbrush and Mudbox for modeling, Maya for Rigging, Maya and Houdini for Creature FX, and Houdini, Arnold, Mari, and Substance for Look Dev and Texture. Our primary focus is photorealistic assets for feature film and television.

Most of our artists specialise in one area of Build with a secondary skill set either in production or which they are eager to develop further. We generally work project centric, meaning artists typically work very closely with the Leads/VFX Supervisors and CG Supervisors on a project. We believe this approach maximises artistic development, ownership, and creative input.

We are particularly proud of the diverse nature of our team and the way in which loose organisational hierarchy enables our artists to work seamlessly with and within other groups. At ILP we pride ourselves on both quality and creativity, and strive to build a place where artists want to work, play and develop. If this sounds like a good fit for you we would love to hear from you!

Your work will include:

  • Working with the production team, leads and supervisors to execute the desired look of CG assets/provide end to end rigging solutions.
  • Working closely with concept artists, modelers, other look-dev TD's and lighting TD's in achieving desired look of CG assets.
  • Maintaining or exceeding a consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work.
  • Skill specific responsibilities, such as modelling clean assets, building animation rigs/motion systems and/or creating textures for hard surface and organic assets.

You need the following:

  • Passion and drive for everything VFX.
  • Good artistic eye, both for what looks right and how to take it to the next level.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, with a good understanding of how assets will be used later in the pipeline.
  • An organised way of working - creating assets/rigs/tools that can easily be picked up by other artists.
  • Proactive and excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
  • A humble and helpful attitude.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new techniques and workflows.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • As English is our main language in production, you need to be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken.
  • Be able to work on site at our office in Stockholm, Sweden.

Experience in the following areas are considered a plus:

  • Working with high-end visual effects for feature film and television.
  • Demo reel showing knowledge and experience within relevant areas in build.
  • Secondary experience at a professional level in a complementary discipline (Animation/Previs, lookdev, modeling, lighting, etc. for example)
  • Education in computer graphics and/or traditional arts.

About the company

Important Looking Pirates is one of Scandinavia's biggest visual effects studios. Located in the heart of Stockholm we create photorealistic VFX for international TV series and feature films.

ILP was founded by artists in 2007 with the vision to become one of the top international suppliers of VFX. Since our management are artists themselves the focus of the company has always been on the quality of our work. That focus has not only earned us the big productions we are working on today but also international recognition and several of the most prestigious industry awards. We can proudly say that we have assembled one of the best visual effects teams in the business, currently with around 110 talents from all corners of the world.

Our latest projects include films like Star Wars - The Last Jedi, Jurassic World - Fallen Kingdom and Aladdin, and TV series like Carnival Row, Game of Thrones, Westworld and Lost in Space.

Our new headquarters is located in the famous Norstedts building on the islet of Riddarholmen. The office is designed to inspire creativity and to provide the best possible work environment for creating spectacular visual effects. Almost a third of the office consists of social areas where the pirates gather to have lunch and celebratory fikas, get company updates, participate in fussball tournaments, and hang out for Friday beers.
