Northvolt's Research and Development Laboratory (RDL) executes the fabrication of new, novel lithium ion batteries as designed by our world class Cell Design Team. We are literally the first step in building and evaluating the next generation of lithium ion technology.

The R&D Quality Management Systems Engineer will undertake, execute, and manage several aspects which directly relate to producing high quality products. Some of the work takes place in a dry & clean room, and outside the controlled environment will involve QMS documentation production, metric development, and compliance analysis.

The person we are looking for is strongly goal oriented, and thrives on applying quality processes to achieve significant improvements in production. The main tasks for this position are fall into two categories:

  1. Development, Control, Application, and Improvements in ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Documentation
    1. Develop the quality documentation necessary to not only meet ISO 9001 & 14001 requirements, but to serve as the underlying structure for driving a quality based approach to all RDL functions. Some of these items include:
    2. Risk and opportunities register with mitigation action tracking.
    3. Management of skills matrices, ensuring they are in place, up to date and used.
    4. Competence development plans and review of adequacy of resources (i.e. numbers and competence levels).
    5. Governance of detailed process maps including SOPs and WIs – to be kept up to date, continuously improved and properly executed.
      KPIs and performance evaluations/improvement plans.
    6. Serve as the 'Champion of Quality' within the organization to ensure that all members are knowledgeable of the methods and processes to ensure the highest quality standard.
    7. Own the preparation for successful ISO audits.
  2. Process Quality Metrics: Development and Continuous Improvements
    1. Using the developed quality systems and metrics, develop and execute a detailed quality assurance and assessment plan throughout the organization.
    2. Embody the Kaizen mindset and use data to drive continuous improvements from a structured FMEA/data-based approach.
    3. Ensure all analytical and production equipment which requires calibration is captured in a calibration schedule, and that calibrations are kept up to date. Calibrations themselves are handled by the Quality Department, Maintenance Department, or outside services, but you will drive the schedule and ensure that calibrations are done properly and on schedule.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Science or engineering degree(s).
  • Proven experience with Quality systems, ISO 9001 requirements and methods, and basic quality systems methods and tools such as 8Ds, FMEAs, Kaizen, etc.
  • Excellent reading, writing, and speaking comprehension of English; Swedish is a plus. Due to Northvolt's multi-cultural roots, English is the common language in the workplace.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft (or similar) Office products, to include word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines, excellent time management.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment, as well as independently. Strong sense of accountability, responsibility, and ownership.

Desired (but not required) Additional Skills:

  • Moderate to strong working knowledge of data and statistics (example: you know what a t-test is and when it’s applicable). Ideally you are well skilled in a comprehensive data analysis package such as Tableau.
  • Experience working in production line environments, especially those involving a clean room or dry room environment.
  • Experience with quality systems applied in an automotive environment.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Other unrelated "mad skills" such as welding, soldering, microelectronics, Arduino/programming, woodworking, etc.
