Role: Business Development Representative

The Business Development Representative is the first step in your journey towards becoming a successful Sales Executive in the Meltwater Social division. It is designed to help the candidate learn about the digital marketing industry and the varied use cases of Meltwater Social’s solutions. The program not only focuses on teamwork and culture, but most importantly, has a strong emphasis on developing consultative sales, and helping companies & organisations adopt social media solutions.

Your role as a Business Development Representative will have a strong focus on working with the Senior Sales Executives to qualify prospects and build a strong sales pipeline. The role will give the candidate opportunities to participate in meetings with C-suite Executives as well as a chance to consult with them on their social media initiatives. Success in this position requires a strong curiosity for Digital Marketing / Social Media / Martech, excellent communication and presentation skills, and a strategic mindset to consult with C-suite Executives in Marketing.


  • Business development and sales support role for Meltwater Social division, working very closely with the Sales Director of Meltwater Social
  • Focuses on driving the top of the sales funnel – such as sales pipeline generation, and lead qualification of new & existing clients for purpose of driving sales & revenue
  • Qualify inbound leads, and reach out to outbound prospects effectively
  • Initiate early conversations with clients to understand their pain points, get them excited about Meltwater, and start building value by sharing our value proposition
  • Book a steady flow of demos and meetings for interested clients, where you will also introduce the Sales Director who continues with the sales process
  • Some element of presales work, such as putting together business proposals, presentations, pitch decks, proof of concepts, and collecting use cases
  • Become an expert user of our SaaS platforms
  • Specialize in knowledge in the Social Media & Digital Marketing industry
  • Contribute to the Meltwater Social Sales Director’s sales performance

Your Ideal Qualifications:

  • University degree (in any discipline) with strong academic results
  • Have up to 1 - 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Must have knowledge of & passionate about digital marketing, social media, and a basic understanding of martech
  • Passion for entrepreneurship & technology, SaaS industry & media intelligence, and you should be a regular consumer of the news / media
  • Keen interest in consultative sales and business development
  • High level of drive & stamina to succeed in sales
  • Track record of successes and highlights in sales related achievements
  • Good to have prior experience with software demonstrations
  • Some exposure to sales processes from prospecting to closing of deals
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, initiative and organized with the ability to work under tight deadlines and in a high-pressure environment
