Bonnier Books UK is looking for a smart and proactive editor to join its non-fiction publishing team. The editor will work across four imprints – Blink, Lagom, 535 and Manilla Press.

This is an incredible opportunity to become part of a fast-moving, friendly, and successful publishing team. Bonnier Books UK publishes a range of non-fiction books from household names like Lily Allen, Jenson Button, Paul Whitehouse, Bob Mortimer and Professor Steve Peters; to bestsellers like The Mountbattens by Andrew Lownie and upcoming climate change book The Future We Choose by Christiana Figueres and Tom Rivett-Carnac.

The successful applicant will need a keen eye for detail both for editing proofs and identifying new trends in the market. The editor will need to be confident taking manuscripts from acquisition to publication and beyond as well as working closely with other members of the editorial team to develop new projects. The editor will be experienced in liaising directly with authors and agents, as well as other departments in-house, enjoy crafting the perfect copy and be a passionate champion for their books.

The responsibilities of this role include (but are not limited too):

  • Managing book projects from acquisition to finished product
  • Contract support
  • Creating and managing publishing schedules
  • Line and structural editing
  • Working closely with authors and agents on book projects
  • Briefing book cover designers
  • Assisting with photography shoots for book covers
  • Writing cover copy
  • Booking and managing project freelancers (including copyeditors and proof-readers)
  • Collating book proofs
  • Sending final book files to print
  • Liaising closely with in-house teams, including communicating book information and schedules to the production team; updating the rights team with new information; and liaising with the marketing and PR teams on campaigns and author management
  • Reviewing submissions
  • Suggesting new project ideas and pro-actively researching potential publishing trends

Skills & Requirements

Skills and experience

  • 2–3 years of publishing experience in an editorial role, confident managing the following tasks:

  • Editing, collating and proofing manuscripts

  • Writing cover copy
  • Briefing book cover design
  • Liaising with both authors and agents

  • Confident communication skills, especially when working with various internal teams and external stakeholders

  • Organised and proactive
  • Passionate about books and reading
  • Knowledge and experience using Biblio is beneficial but not essential
  • Team-orientated
  • A creative person with a keen awareness of current trends in non-fiction publishing
