Northvolt has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Equipment Supplier Quality Engineer to join our bold team of Supplier Quality professionals to play a key role in establishing the new factories for Northvolt production of Li-ion cells.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in enabling supply of the first large scale European Li-ion cells from state of the art production lines. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society. We are continuously building a team of experienced Quality Engineers and great leaders with strong industrialisation background.

You will be in charge of early quality assurance of new and existing equipment suppliers, implementing the supplier quality toolbox for supplier quality evaluation and selection, supplier quality agreements etc for Northvolt’s production equipment, reporting to the Supplier Quality Director. You will also be responsible for quality assessment and audits of suppliers, APQP, continuous quality review and quality documentation to ensure a flawless transition into manufacturing and supply of our products.

The Supplier Quality Engineer will be an expert in supplier quality management, specifically in CapEx projects in Automotive industry, which includes deep knowledge in APQP, Design review, FAT/SAT, quality management systems, quality process design, process robustness and monitoring of supplier quality performance etc. You will play an important role to lead and co-ordinate quality activities with equipment suppliers, collaborating with Northvolt Purchasing, Process Engineering, Production and Maintenance teams.

In general, you have a long experience in supplier quality management and have been driving Quality in large, innovative and challenging CapEx projects internally and with external partners. Specifically, you have a deep understanding of working and cooperating cross-functionally in a multicultural environment with Purchasing R&D, Production, Process engineering, IT and Automation.

The candidate should be analytical and logical with an ability to identify opportunities and improvements to drive increased quality through data driven approaches. The candidate should have strong technical abilities in order to succeed in this role.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Embed the Northvolt Supplier Quality Manual with all Equipment Suppliers
  • Evaluate and qualify new equipment suppliers together with Process Engineering, Purchasing and R&D
  • Develop and manage Supplier Quality Agreements
  • Execute supplier audits, specifically QMS audits and process audits
  • Drive fast paced parts APQP with suppliers, with continuous review and follow-up of progress and performance
  • Plan and execute qualification and approval activities
  • Set up quality monitoring procedures, evaluate supplier quality performance and establish improvement plans when needed
  • Oversee the equipment APQP key milestones and sign-offs
  • Ensure all quality requirements are collated from all parts of Northvolt and communicated to suppliers in an effective way
  • Contribute to implementation of electronic quality data sharing with suppliers
  • Ensure all documentation deliveries are completed on time
  • Work across many parts of the organisation, collaborating with R&D technical team, Process engineering, Supply Chain, IT & automation and all raw material suppliers.

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • BSc or MSc degree in Physics/Chemistry/Manufacturing/Engineering
  • Education in relevant quality and industrialization discipline
  • Experience and specific knowledge of quality management systems, e.g. IATF16949, ISO 9001, TQM
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience within high volume production
  • Experience of supplier quality management in relevant industry, e.g. Li-ion raw materials, Automotive, Pharmaceutical, Food industries
  • Experience from auditing suppliers
  • Experience in developing processes, standards, procedures and documentation to support efficient Supplier Quality Management
  • Project management skills and a successful track record of leading quality improvements in manufacturing and with suppliers
  • Experience from developing training and certification procedures and programs
  • Knowledgeable in Lean and six sigma
  • Familiar with SPC, FMEA, Quality troubleshooting tools and problem solving methodology
  • Curious, technically educated and preferably with a strong business background

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy.
