Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a Construction Engineer to join our passionate team in Stockholm. You will be working on the design for our Northvolt factories, first out our Ett factory in Skellefteå, frequent travels will be part of your work.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

As a Construction Engineer for HVAC at Northvolt you will work with both coordination and execution. A central part of your job will be to coordinate contractors, consultants and internal design resources in the design phase. Furthermore, you will support in decisions and technical know how during execution phase of Northvolt Ett. A part of your assignment will also be to interact with process engineers where your work will be carried out in a highly international context.The role reports to the HVAC Construction Design Manager.

We believe you are experienced in HVAC system design in both industrial and non-industrial settings. You have experience working in projects integrating indoor and outdoor industrial processes. As a Construction Design Engineer you are a vital member of the Construction team and building up our know how of factory design serving Northvolt's mission to enable the future of energy.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Creation of HVAC design procedures and specifications
  • Gathering the HVAC design requirements from the different disciplines.
  • Coordinating between HVAC design and other discipline designs
  • Quality assurance of HVAC engineering activities including the review and approval of associated HVAC documentation.
  • Client representative at design reviews and acceptance tests.
  • Provide technical support to the construction and commissioning teams.
  • Handover of the HVAC design documentation to the Maintenance and Operations Team

Skills & Requirements


  • A degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in HVAC system design in both industrial and non-industrial settings
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience working in projects integrating both indoor and outdoor industrial processes
  • Previous experience working as an HVAC engineer in all project phases from feasibility to construction and commissioning
  • Experience in supporting other project functions with input, including estimating, scheduling, HSE risk assessments, and constructability reviews
  • Previous experience with large scale projects is strongly desirable but not essential
  • Familiarity with Swedish and European laws and standards is strongly desirable but not essential.
  • Fluent in either English or Swedish. Fluency in both languages is preferred as the role will require clear communication with both English and Swedish speakers.

Specific Skills/Abilities

  • Strong experience with using BIM in design
  • Familiarity with 3D and 2D design tools such as MAGICAD, Revit or AUTOCAD
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Highly organized and result-driven

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.
