Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a commissioning manager to join our stellar team. As a Commissioning Manager, you will take ownership of the Northvolt (NV) Ett project commissioning process and execution of the large-scale battery factory being built in Northern Sweden. Your responsibilities will cover steering both the commissioning planning during the design phase as well as directly controlling the execution phase. The scope of this position is for the complete Ett Program.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop the Completions and Commissioning Philosophy for Upstream and Downstream plants
  • Develop the Commissioning process, from Mechanical Completion through Cold Commissioning & Hot Commissioning to handover to the Operations team.
  • Develop the Commissioning plan, including meetings, communication structures, and all other necessary project events to support the commissioning of the NV Ett Program.
  • Develop the commissioning schedule for the scope to be integrated into the overarching NV project plan, integrating NV equipment vendor, 3rd parties or internal NV groups as required.
  • With NV specialists and vendors develop the Commissioning Protocols and Performance Tests to meet NVEtt contractual completion targets.
  • Coordinate the systemisation of the NV Ett project and commissioning workscope with the delivery teams, contractors, and Northvolt equipment vendors and partners.
  • Build the Completions & Commissioning team, recruit, manage and coordinate project commissioning resources from Northvolt to ensure delivery during both the planning and execution phase.
  • Drive the day-to-day execution, tracking and control of completion and commissioning at site, meaning driving equipment, sub-system and system commissioning.
  • Develop the monitoring and control of completion and commissioning at site, reporting KPIs and progress as required by NV
  • Ensure all relevant environmental, health and safety standards are being followed, encouraging a positive health and safety culture
  • Arrange handover of all relevant commissioning documentation, BIM model and required certification including both NV and legal requirements.

Skills & Requirements


  • A relevant university degree (B.Sc. / M.Sc. or similar). Engineering degree preferred but not required
  • 10+ years working experience of relevant industrial experience of completions and commissioning management, ideally both process and high-tech manufacturing.
  • Automotive style production line commissioning may be an advantage
  • Must have worked in multi-cultural environment
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Specific skills:

  • Creation and implementation of completions and commissioning processes.
  • Track record as commissioning manager driving complex project commissioning in design and execution through to start-up and handover.
  • Experience of Completions & Commissioning requirements in with the chemical/pharma process and/or high speed manufacturing industries.

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.
