Northvolt is looking for devops engineers to join our software team. As a devops engineer, you will be contributing towards building one of the first large scale European battery factories, which will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society. We work with a "cloud-first"-mindset which presents us with unique and interesting challenges, pushing the traditional ways of working in manufacturing. We have a ruthless focus on automating all our (development) processes, helping us to deliver value to our customers as quickly as possible.
We know that many different names are given to this role in other companies, and your experience likely spans a variety of areas including software development. It is likely that in the past you have had titles like devops engineer, infrastructure engineer, site reliability engineer, software engineer or automation engineer.
We are a new company with great plans and great people. We are constantly figuring out solutions to new types of problems. If you are a problem solver, this is for you! Come join us on our journey of transforming the world.
Things you will do:
Bring best practices from devops and site reliability engineering disciplines to industrial technology and work to develop and open source tools and standards which will accelerate their adoption by leading technology and manufacturing companies.
Design, test and deploy infrastructure to operate a modern factory producing large amounts of data and connected batteries daily.
Collaborate with software engineers to develop automation solutions for how we safely test and deploy code on anything from battery packs to cloud to factory equipment.
Work to develop and help to document Northvolt’s processes around infrastructure deployment and software deployment.
Work with the infosec team to continuously test, monitor, and improve the security of our infrastructure.
Work with our IT department to help build out the right network architecture and deployment solutions for 3rd party software we need.
Collaborate with a cross-functional group of experts across the company to make sure we build the right things together for the right reasons and learn how electrical batteries are designed, developed, and manufactured from cradle to grave
Keep up with the state of the art in infrastructure, “everything as a software,” virtualization, CI/CD frameworks, cross-platform software development, engineering processes, as well as develop more domain knowledge in related areas (among others, automation, battery manufacturing and connectivity)
Help us build a great team and make Northvolt a great place to work!
Some work experience (we need new and experienced engineers, so level of experience will determine seniority of the role):
deploying and managing infrastructure in the cloud (AWS, GCP or Azure) using infrastructure as code (ideally Terraform)
developing and managing highly automated continuous integration and deployment pipelines and helping developers increase their productivity
working with distributed systems, microservices, load balancing, etc.
working with virtualization, containerization, Kubernetes and related technologies
Programming skills in at least one language (ideally Go or Python) and desire to learn more.
Good communication skills, ability to Get Stuff Done, and a learning mindset
Passion for solving problems with technology in simple yet innovative ways especially with open source software
Qualities that we cherish are flexibility, sense of quality, friendliness, motivation to take on new challenges, grit and a sense of humor.
World leading technique
Top specialists as team peers
Fast paced & entrepreneurial culture
Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.
The future needs high-quality, green batteries. And it needs lots of them.
We are currently in an exciting fast-growing phase and operate in a busy, fast moving environment, dealing with a wide range of stakeholders. We are staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We are also preparing for upcoming positions at the main factory, Northvolt Ett, in Skellefteå.
We want to work with experienced battery experts as well as talented and purpose driven people from all kinds of disciplines to make this happen. Those of us already on board share a bold streak and a passion for our mission. We are prepared to work hard in pursuit of excellence. We enjoy the ride and our main drive is to make a difference for real. We are a team dedicated to thinking new, working hard and having fun. Join us today!
