Quality Control - Materials Test Technician

Northvolt has an exciting opportunity for a Material Test Technician to join our bold project team and play a key role in evaluating the incoming details, intermediate and final products for Northvolt production and development of Li-ion battery cells.

In your role you will perform the preparation of metallographic samples and evaluate the microstructure. You will also perform mechanical testing such as tensile and hardness testing. Non-destructive testing of welds will also be part of your responsibilities.

You will be running the examinations, interpret the data and report the results. You will also develop methods for the different measurements and document them in standard operation procedures. To maintain the instruments to a high standard is also part of your role.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Executing material testing in an effective manner, following standard operation procedures
  • Interpret and report data/results
  • Write standard operation procedures
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and calibration of instruments and equipment

Skills & Requirements


  • Bachelor´s degree (or technical school degree) within Metallurgy and Metallography and/or comparable work experience
  • 5 years of relevant work experience in relevant laboratory environment
  • Experience from quality control, preferable from Li-ion materials
  • Experience from sample preparation such as polishing and etching and evaluation of microstructure in LOM and SEM/EDX.
  • Experience from NDT of welds and mechanical testing such as tensile and hardness testing.

  • Excellent English written and oral skills, Swedish is a plus

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.
