Northvolt Zwei (A joint venture between Volkswagen AG and Northvolt) has an exciting job offer for a Purchasing Manager Indirect Materials and Services to join our passionate team in Braunschweig.

As Purchasing Manager you will be in charge of building the entire indirect materials purchasing and all related process around it for our ambitious factory project in Salzgitter.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Build a culture of technical curiosity, pursuit of the best deal and professional respect and ethics.
  • Develop a strategic vision for indirect procurement.
  • Define and roll-out an efficient indirect purchasing process including respective IT tools.
  • Manage the procurement process in coordination with all relevant departments and management teams to provide effective procurement support.
  • Ensure end to end compliant purchasing process.
  • Contribute to build the most environmentally friendly battery supply chain in the world.
  • Responsible for cost, quality, delivery and overall financial performance of suppliers scope versus budget.
  • Track and report suppliers ongoing performance.
  • Contribute to build the most environmentally friendly battery supply chain in the world.

Skills & Requirements


  • A degree in engineering/economics, MSc or MBA/relevant university degree.
  • Able to build up and maintain business relationship with dedicated suppliers, able to self-manage operational level with supplier with focus on cost, delivery and quality and act as a one-voice towards suppliers.
  • 5+ years experience as Indirect Purchasing professional from relevant industry, 3+ years management experience.
  • Experience in building processes and setting up systems from scratch.
  • Ability to prepare fact-based negotiation strategy and experience of a few closed negotiation rounds in complex settings.
  • Advanced knowledge of game theory principles in negotiation and of a negotiation design process.
  • Knowledge of the cost calculation models desired. Experience of creation of bottom-up cost calculation is a plus.
  • Good team player, able to influence and convince other members of cross-functional team.
  • Eager to understand various production processes and eager to scout for new technology road maps from suppliers.
  • Experience from battery manufacturing industry is a plus.
  • Must have worked in multi-cultural environment.

  • Excellent English written and oral skills, German/Swedish is a plus.
  • Highly organized and result-driven.

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.

We are currently in an exciting fast-growing phase and operate in a busy, fast moving environment, dealing with a wide range of stakeholders. We are staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We are also preparing for upcoming positions at the main factory, Northvolt Ett, in Skellefteå and Northvolt Zwei in Germany.

The Northvolt–Volkswagen Group joint venture is establishing a gigafactory in Salzgitter, Germany. Northvolt Zwei takes its design from the Northvolt blueprint for battery manufacturing developed for Northvolt Ett. Start of construction is planned for 2021 and start of operations beginning of 2024. Initial annual output will be at least 16 GWh.​
