Northvolt has an exciting job offer for a financial controller to join our passionate team in Braunschweig.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. You will have the opportunity to be part of building a competent and dependable finance team, capable of scaling Northvolt's operations in Germany and beyond. Given the timing of you joining Northvolt and the early stage in which the company is in currently, you will be given a unique opportunity to have great impact in the development of a new company and industry in Germany.

Are you used to managing accounting operations and maintenance of the General Ledger? Do you have a successful track record of coordinating and directing the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts and report variances? Is preparing and publishing timely monthly financial statements and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting standards something you think is fun? We are looking for an experienced financial controller to undertake all aspects of financial accounting, including corporate accounting, statutory/regulatory and financial reporting including consolidation. You will also work closely with the finance team in Stockholm to produce and develop management reporting required by the business to help drive business performance.

You will work with the business controllers and coordinate the budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.

The financial controllers responsibilities will also include certain elements of financial risk management.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL and working with the business controllers - cost accounting, inventory accounting and revenue recognition.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting and liaison with the auditors.
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance as required.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close process.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting and consolidation.
  • Manage and comply with reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Development of the ERP system to optimize and automate processes where possible.
  • Act as a point of contact with the external auditors.
  • Additional controller duties as necessary and with a keen attention to detail.
  • To assist in recruiting and development of finance team as the organisation grows.

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • BSc degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics.
  • 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience.
  • Proven working experience as a financial controller and managing the reporting process.
  • Advanced degree in accounting - professional qualification an advantage.
  • Thorough knowledge of German accounting principles.
  • Experience of group consolidations is an advantage.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Experience with creating financial statements.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process.
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
  • Experience of working with and developing ERP system is required and Microsoft Dynamics an advantage.

  • Excellent English and German written and oral skills, Swedish is a plus.

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.

We are currently in an exciting fast-growing phase and operate in a busy, fast moving environment, dealing with a wide range of stakeholders. We are staffing our international office in Stockholm, our R&D facility, Northvolt Labs, in Västerås, as well as our Gdansk facility for production of battery systems. We are also preparing for upcoming positions at the main factory, Northvolt Ett, in Skellefteå and Northvolt Zwei in Germany.

The Northvolt–Volkswagen Group joint venture is establishing a gigafactory in Salzgitter, Germany. Northvolt Zwei takes its design from the Northvolt blueprint for battery manufacturing developed for Northvolt Ett. Start of construction is planned for 2021 and start of operations beginning of 2024. Initial annual output will be at least 16 GWh.​
