Supplier Quality Manager

Northvolt has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Supplier Quality Manager to lead our bold team of Supplier Quality professionals and to play a key role in establishing the raw materials and components for Northvolt production of Li-ion cells and batteries.

In joining us you will play an important part in establishing the supplier network for the first large scale European Li-ion factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society. We are continuously building a team of experienced Quality professionals and leaders with industry background.

You will be accountable for early establishment and development of new suppliers, quality management in supplier localisation projects, the supplier quality toolbox for supplier quality evaluation and selection, supplier quality agreements etc for Northvolt’s raw materials and components, reporting to the Head of Quality. You will also be accountable for parts qualifications and quality assessment of suppliers to ensure a flawless transition into manufacturing and supply of our products.

The Supplier Quality Manager will be a senior expert in supplier quality management, specifically in Automotive industry, which includes deep knowledge in parts development and qualification, PPAP, IATF16969 quality system and requirements, quality process design, quality control and assurance, process robustness and monitoring of material and component quality performance etc. You will play an important role in taking lead for supplier quality, collaborating with Northvolt Purchasing, engineering and design, Manufacturing etc.

In general, you have a long experience leading professional supplier quality teams and have been driving large, innovative and challenging projects internally and with external partners in the area of new sourcing, localisation, quality development, qualification, efficiency and optimisation. Specifically, you have a deep understanding of working and cooperating cross-functionally in a multicultural environment.

The candidate should be analytical, logical and a strong leader with an ability to identify opportunities and improvements to drive increased quality through data driven approaches. The candidate should have strong technical abilities in order to succeed in this role.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead superior Supplier Quality Management including Supplier Development, Capacity Analysis, Risk Assessments, Preventive and Corrective actions
  • Owner of the Northvolt Supplier Quality Framework
  • Set the strategy and road map for the team to evaluate and qualify new raw materials and components together with Purchasing, Design and Engineering
  • Establish Supplier Quality Agreements
  • Ensure diligent execution of supplier audits, specifically QMS audits and process audits
  • Prioritise fast paced parts development with suppliers, with iterative prototyping and testing together with engineering
  • Ensure planning and execution of parts qualification and supplier PPAP approvals
  • Set up quality monitoring procedures, supplier dashboards and evaluate supplier performance and prioritise the right quality improvement activities
  • Maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders internally and externally
  • Set the roadmap for electronic quality data sharing and integration of IT platforms together with Digitalisation and drive the implementation with suppliers
  • Work across many parts of the organisation, collaborating with R&D technical team, Process engineering, Procurement, IT & Digitalisation

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • MSc degree in Physics/Chemistry/Manufacturing/Engineering
  • Education in relevant quality and industrialisation discipline
  • Experience and specific knowledge of quality management systems, e.g. IATF16949, ISO 9001, TQM
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience within high volume production
  • Experience of supplier quality management in relevant industry, e.g. Li-ion raw materials, Automotive, Pharmaceutical, Food industries
  • Exposure to supply chain, with understanding of end-to-end quality management

  • Experience form working with a supplier base in Asia

  • Excellent leadership skills with a proven track record to build high performing teams

  • Project management skills and a successful track record of leading complex quality improvement programs in manufacturing and with suppliers

  • Familiar with SPC, Cpk, FMEA, control plans, drawings and SC CC, Quality troubleshooting tools and problem solving methodology

  • Curious, technically educated and preferably with a strong business background

  • Excellent English written and oral skills. Swedish, Korean or Chinese is a plus

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration.
