Northvolt has an exciting job offer for an experienced QC manager to be one of the first players to join our passionate team in Skellefteå. The candidate is required to spend a lot of time in the project office in Stockholm as well during the first year.

In joining us you will play an important part from the very start in building one of the first large scale European battery factories. Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society.

The QC Manager will be in charge of planning and establishing the QC laboratories in Skellefteå and for recruiting and building a high performing team. As leader of the unit you will have the opportunity to build a competent team from scracth and to leverage learning and experience from the site in Västerås. You will be in charge of setting up, validating and operate the QC labs and the long term roadmap for analytical capabilities in Skellefteå reporting to the Head of Quality.

The unit will primarily support the production team and is a vital part of ensuring delivery of high quality products for our customers. Our aim is to have the QC labs for the first phase of the site operational in February 2021.

In general you have a long experience from leading teams in laboratory settings and have been driving large, innovative and challenging projects with high demands on delivery on time, budget control and quality.

Specifically, you have a deep understanding of working in a cross-functional and project oriented organisation.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identify the requirements and capabilities needed for the QC lab to effectively serve R&D and production
  • Manage the project plan for establishment of the QC- lab including layout, specifications, support in the RFQ process and execution of installations and commissioning
  • Responsible for keeping an up to date budget of instruments, equipment and tools needed in the QC-lab
  • Responsible for competence development of team members in the QC-team
  • Ensure the QC-team deploys effective KPI’s and objectives and that performance is systematically evaluated and analysed
  • Accountable for method validation, maintenance and calibration of the instruments, control and inspection SOP’s and training
  • Responsible for efficient execution of controls and inspections according to all control plans
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise within Quality Control & Inspection
  • Drive development of new innovative technology to characterise intermediate and finished products, in-line and in the QC-lab

Skills & Requirements


  • MSc in e.g. Chemical/Industrial/Mechanical engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in quality control management role
  • Experienced in developing new analytical and control methods
  • Experienced in quality improvement and problem-solving tools such as six sigma, 8D etc
  • Excellent English proficiency
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, six-sigma (e.g. green belt), 8D, 5S, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IATF 16949
  • Excellent knowledge of Risk Management, Risk Identification and Risked Based approaches
  • Skilled in Business Process Management
  • Experienced in analytical methods/instruments, e.g. ICP, SEM, GC, DLS, XRD etc

  • Promoting and requiring facts and data driven decision making in the organisation
  • Strong communication skills with all the key stakeholders to ensure the Quality Control laboratory consistently serves the organisation to its requirements

  • Excellent English written and oral skills, Swedish is a plus

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration. Once completed, it will be Europe’s largest battery cell factory and produce 32 GWh worth of capacity annually.
