Northvolt has an exciting job offer for an experienced QC manager to come and lead our passionate QC team in Västerås. The QC Lab has been operating for some months and there are great opportunities for a great leader to transform and improve the way we operate Quality Control.

Northvolt will play an important role in the transformation to a carbon free society and the QC team are pivotal in ensuring the quality and safety of our Li-ion cells.

The QC Manager will be in charge of planning and executing all Quality Controls in Västerås and for recruiting and building a high performing team. As leader of the unit you will have the opportunity to build a competent team and to leverage learning and experience from the first years of project and operations. You will be in charge of validating and operating the QC lab and for the long term roadmap of analytical capabilities in Västerås reporting to the Head of Quality.

The unit will primarily support the production and R&D teams and is a vital part of ensuring delivery of high quality products for our customers. In general you have a long experience from leading teams in laboratory settings and have been driving large, innovative and challenging projects with high demands on delivery on time, budget control and quality.

Specifically, you have a deep understanding of working in a cross-functional and project oriented organisation.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identify the requirements and capabilities needed for the QC lab to effectively serve R&D and production
  • Continuously review QC Lab capabilities and future demands
  • Drive continuous improvement, 5S and optimisation of the Lab
  • Responsible for keeping an up to date budget of instruments, equipment and tools needed in the QC-lab
  • Responsible for competence development of team members in the QC-team
  • Ensure the QC-team deploys effective KPI’s and objectives and that performance is systematically evaluated and analysed
  • Accountable for method validation, maintenance and calibration of the instruments, control and inspection SOP’s and training
  • Responsible for efficient execution of controls and inspections according to all control plans
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise within Quality Control & Inspection
  • Drive development of new innovative technology to characterise intermediate and finished products, in-line and in the QC-lab

Skills & Requirements


  • MSc in e.g. Chemical/Industrial/Mechanical engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in quality control management role
  • Experienced in developing new analytical and control methods
  • Extensive experience from production setting
  • Experienced in quality improvement and problem-solving tools such as six sigma, 8D etc
  • Excellent English proficiency
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, six-sigma (e.g. green belt), 8D, 5S, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IATF 16949
  • Excellent knowledge of Risk Management, Risk Identification and Risked Based approaches
  • Skilled in Business Process Management
  • Experienced in analytical methods/instruments, e.g. ICP, SEM, GC, DLS, XRD etc

  • Promoting and requiring facts and data driven decision making in the organisation
  • Strong communication skills with all the key stakeholders to ensure the Quality Control laboratory consistently serves the organisation to its requirements

  • Excellent English written and oral skills, Swedish is a plus
