The electrification of cars, trucks and buses is one of the most extensive and disruptive industry transformations ever. Northvolt leads this change and aims to become the leading battery partner for the European automotive industry and set new benchmarks for sustainability and CO2 footprint.

Northvolt is now looking for a Cost Engineer to join the Automotive unit and be part of a team driving cost excellence on our battery products. You will work closely together with Projects, R&D, Purchasing and Operations to analyze and challenge cost assumptions and initiate & lead execution of cost improvement levers. You will be involved in the whole product life cycle, from product design, across the sample phases and to series production.

We believe you have a solid background from working with rigorous cost analysis and cost improvement projects, either as a consultant or within an industrial/product company. We believe you have a solid technical understanding to be able to collaborate with our technical experts, but also have a solid financial understanding to work with a product P&L. You have a track record of successfully managing cost project and achieving results. As a person we believe you are analytical, structured, love to execute plans and meet ambitious targets.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform overall analysis on material and manufacturing cost of products
  • Drive cost improvement projects cross-functionally in the organization
  • Involvement in product design phase to ensure design-to-cost focus
  • Build and develop green-field operational cost models for subcomponents in our products using internal and external insight
  • Involvement in customer discussions regarding product cost breakdown in RFQ phases

You will be part of the Automotive & Foundry BU and work closely with our Project managers, but also work with other departments such as R&D, Purchasing & Process. The role reports to our Director Pricing & Cost Excellence. You will be based in Stockholm or Västerås, and divide your time between our offices and travel occasionally to our customers in Europe.

Skills & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • MSc engineering, preferably including business studies
  • 3-5 years experience working with product cost ownership or cost engineering in an industrial company, or 3-5 years of experience from management consulting or similar focusing on operations/supply chain
  • Successful history of executing projects, experience from working cross-functionally
  • Knowledge of battery technology is desirable
  • Start-up and growth company experience is a major advantage

  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills in both technical and business environments
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment, as well as independently

About the company

Northvolt was founded in 2016 with the mission to build the world’s greenest battery cell, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest ambitions for recycling, to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Northvolt’s team of experts is building the next generation battery cell factory focused on process innovation, scale and vertical integration.
